Opt-out of EU enforced gay marriage

I continue to be amazed at what is considered to be important international news by the NZ media. For instance, Poland is currently going through a number of problems to do with setting up a US missile defence base on Polish territory due to threats from the Soviets, whoops, Russians. But no, not a peep on that. But opting out of parts of the EU Charter, most especially anything to do with "gay marriage" - that gets a news item on TV One's website. I'd be interested to know if that got the television news as well.
Polish President Lech Kaczynski said on Sunday he plans to push for an opt-out from parts of the European Union's Charter of Fundamental Rights after the ruling Civic Platform said it wants to ratify the treaty in full.

The previous conservative government negotiated an opt-out from the charter in the EU's reform treaty, due to be signed next month, arguing that it could limit Warsaw's ability to maintain a traditional Roman Catholic family policy.

Kaczynski, who has the power to veto any legislation, said he was determined to avoid legalising gay marriage which he said was sanctioned by the EU Lisbon Treaty's Charter of Fundamental Rights.

"The charter contains resolutions that are completely proper, but there are also resolutions which may subsequently sanction marriages other than unions between a man and woman," Kaczynski told worshippers after Palm Sunday mass in the north-eastern town of Lyse.

  1. Poland is currently going through a number of problems to do with setting up a US missile defence base on Polish territory due to threats from the Soviets, whoops, Russians.

Well, given the US reaction to Cuba allowing Russian missiles on its territory, the Russians' reaction to American attempts to site missiles next door to them can only be described as admirably laid-back so far.

  2. Whatever the reaction, PM, the fact remains that this order of news doesn't even rate a mention in NZ news media circles, while as Poland wanting an opt-out clause for the Lisbon Treaty does. Weird or what, or is it that NZ doesn't give a stuff about much except what may impact on licentious lifestyles and whales and the Dali Llama.

  3. I'd say that the media got it right. Whether it likes or hates gay marriage, it recognises that it's a critical moral issue that applies to individuals.

Russia is widely recognised as amoral and thus of little importance, and thus banal. It needs to start killing lots of non Russians before the West gets out the fly spray.

  5. The journos print what they think the masses want to hear, they're probably right. All that cold war nonsense is like so last century Lucyna, dontcha know, we just needed to give up our nukes and guns, make-love-not-war and the bad guys would just follow our example.

  6. I haven't experienced anyone forcing their gayness down my throat, anonymous. Have you reported it to the Police?

  7. Why would he report no-one forcing gayness down your throat PM? I doubt he even knows you.
