I don't think Google really cares about this platform anymore and therefore are not keeping it fresh, modern and useable. It was fine ten years ago, but now on a large screen it's truly painful to use.

What prompted the final transfer was the most ridiculous censorship applied to this blog against posts that were ten years or older. Someone must have fainted reading them and complained when they picked themselves up, and the morons receiving the complaint either couldn't read or it was an AI that is just unable to cope with the inputted data. I will follow up on the three posts at some point, especially the satirical one, which really deserves to be re-read by a new audience.

Take into account, whoever you are, that everything you complain about tells me something about you.

Find me on Substack for future posts, totally free for now.

_______________

The protest had arrived at Parliament on 8th February with the initial convoy that came from all parts of the country. People had come to protest against the seemingly never-ending mandates and restrictions placed upon New Zealander's lives for the last two years.

It is very likely that Jacinda Ardern, after earlier declaring the protest was not a protest, had decided the protestors must go; and having made her wishes clear, it was inevitable it would be ended by police, no matter what.

However, it wasn't until just before 4pm, when my husband asked me if I'd seen what was happening at the protest, that I loaded the latest Stuff live feed to see what he meant. I had prayed the Rosary earlier for the protest and for all of New Zealand, but for some reason hadn't kept up with what had been happening on the ground. It was complete destruction from what I could see before the feed was taken down soon
after I tweeted the last few images.

The night before I had said on Twitter, that if the threats of police action were true, then "we will know that dissent against Jacinda Ardern's government will not be tolerated."

When it was over, everything the protestors had built was trampled,
set on fire or just removed. Parliament and the surrounding area looked like the remains of a war-zone.

The Real Camp Freedom, Wellington, New Zealand & The Police Violence That Shut It Down

Was initially inspired to write this post because of this recently published, incredibly moving video that hauntingly contrasts the peaceful protest of a few days prior with the final brutality that occured on Ash Wednesday.

It's a powerful video of the type that will have detractors screaming 'misinformation' and 'PR campaign'!! That is all they've got when it comes down to it; nothing but smears in an attempt take back control of the narrative into the hands of the government spin doctors and their minions.

Contrast One News Video

Compare the video above with this one-sided video from One News, showing the protest in a way that would please Jacinda Ardern.

Towards the end, Jacinda Ardern says, "It was an attack on our
front-line police. It was an attack on our Parliament. It was an
attack on our values and it was wrong." She takes everything that
happened on that day and in typical woke fashion, flips it around.

Too ashamed to engage with those she sought to ignore, instead Jacinda
Ardern sets the police on the protestors in such a way that violence ensues. Then blames them for
everything unleashed upon them and accuses them of what she herself is guilty of: her own lack of values and inability to act as a proper representative of Parliamentary Democracy in NZ.

Performative caring gone terribly wrong.

Reality of Today

Now it is obvious to me that we are in very, dark times that are only going to
get even darker. Any hope of an alternative reality is now totally quashed. It was albeit a very, small hope, but it was still
there nonetheless until last Wednesday. Now there is certainty
of the darkness to come. This is NOT how a democratic nation acts against a peaceful protest. This is how tyrants act. This how the guilty act.

Pre-pandemic times are not coming back; the events of Ash Wednesday prove that categorically. Complying will not bring those times back; neither will trying to wake up the masses - it's too far gone now. Fleeing to other countries will not help either, unless you are wealthy enough to skip around as things change; and even then, good luck to you. For most of us, we will just have to prepare for what is coming where we are. As I will be doing in the coming weeks and months.

Divine Hope Remains

When all seems lost and hopeless, there is still good to be found. So, while I now understand the situation with more clarity, I have realised that the only way to get through this is to pray. Human strength alone is not enough to get through this.

The date of the protest take down was serendipitous; it happened on Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent, a period of repentance in preparation for the greatest event of history itself. And therefore a real sign that our suffering can be transformed to the good. God is with us through of this and will NOT abandon us.

The political question being asked is whether this protest represents some sort of thinend of the wedge – of a much larger silent majority out there, which the few protesters represent. Or whether it is simply the thin end. It is almost certainly the latter.
Over the past couple of years, the Ministry of Health has commissioned Horizon Research to conduct survey about the public’s attitude towards vaccinations.

There we have it; the prime blunder in determining how representative of New Zealand the protestors at Parliament might be. As if supporting vaccination somehow translates into supporting vaccination mandates, the segregation of society, the never-ending restrictions and everything else that goes with those major positions of Ardern's government.

OPINION: The protesters think they represent a silent and sizeable chunk of Kiwis. They do not, and patience is wearing thin. https://t.co/M1S6RUOvhW
— Stuff (@NZStuff) February 11, 2022

If, however, you are more interested in how many people you can get vaccinated by whatever means necessary; whether by soft coercion of implying no more lock downs once enough are vaccinated or by the harsher coercion of vaccination passes and work mandates - it's all the same in the end. The total vaccinated is the only number that counts, for it represents the people that can be controlled one way or another.

I believe this one of the reason why this logical fallacy continues to be promoted. If a government can reliably force a significant majority of the population to do what they want, what does it care if any proportion of those people are angry at being forced? As long as those forced, or those who resisted don't end up on Parliament grounds, that is.

To be fair to the writer, Luke Malpass, he does acknowledge that vaccinated people can also be against the mandates, thus somewhat diverging from the standard government propaganda line:

As always with these protests, there are principled opponents to vaccine mandates. It is also likely a portion of the vaccinated population who don’t agree with the mandates.

What I would like to see happen next is a critique of the standard government conflation that the bulk of NZ's population agrees with their Covid-19 policy because they've gone out to get vaccinated. Once that idea is treated seriously in the mainstream media, we'll know that journalists have started to free themselves from the group think they've been participating in for so long.

Anyway, we are still moving into some very interesting territory. The media do seem to be questioning around of the edges of the belief system that they've been publishing for the last couple of years. While we have a governing class that senses something is wrong, it still thinks that only a fringe element of society is supportive of the protest. While there is a growing population of New Zealanders that has been getting increasingly annoyed at being trapped in this never-ending totalitarian hellhole, not all of this population realise exactly what is happening, but they do know it's affected them badly and they just want it to stop.

Individuals, once they realise that our restrictions will never end, cannot go back to being compliant, easily pushed around citizens. That is why this protest defies understanding by those still in the thrall of the Covid belief system. This is why this protest is not lead by any one person or group. This is also why the protestors do represent a silent and sizeable chunk of Kiwis, despite constant attempts to downplay the numbers and the support. Once you see, you cannot un-see. Once you know, you cannot un-know. Therefore, the numbers can only grow from here.

_______________

Coercion to ensure the correct choice

You have a choice, says the torturer to their victim. Tell us what we want to know and the pain will stop - it's your choice.

You have a choice, says the fanatical religious zealot back in the days when conversion was forced. Convert to our religion and you can be part of the new society - it's your choice.

You have a choice, says the communist to each ordinary person. Take on our ideology or be purged - it's your choice.

You have a choice, says the NZ Government to each person who is not fully vaccinated, with two jabs as of this writing. Submit to the jabs, download the passport and your freedoms will be given back to you - it's your choice.

Discrimination on Choice

There is no discrimination if there is a choice, according to at least one Labour MP and many media influencers on the left side of politics.

It is implied that the choice is so inconsequential, the remedy is so trivial, then how could it possibly be discrimination if a person loses their job or is denied entry to a cafe?

Surely, all the person has to do is make a different choice and any apparent discrimination disappears. Choose differently and your world comes back to you. If a person can choose to make it all go away, there cannot possibly be any discrimination for those who have not yet chosen correctly. This is how discrimination is justified for the person with a troubled conscience.

It is rationalised that each person experiencing discrimination is able to remedy that problem with a simple choice. Snap your fingers and the discrimination melts away. The person being discriminated against is doing it to themselves.

Therefore the discrimination on the part of the discriminator cannot exist as it can be negated by a simple choice by the discriminated to stop the discrimination against themselves.

Trivialised Choice

When a choice seems trivial it can be very difficult to empathise with the difficulty experienced by others who don't consider the choice and the consequence of that choice to be trivial. Thus creating a major disconnect for those who have absorbed the messaging on there being no discrimination if there is a choice.

Maybe peanut butter is a good example to use to try and explain. For a person that likes peanut butter, it's trivial to choose to have it. For a person who is not keen on peanut butter but is given an option of peanut butter or no food, they will choose to have the peanut butter because something is better than nothing. However, for a person that is allergic to peanut butter, then the choice of peanut butter or no food becomes extremely non-trivial.

It's irrelevant to the allergic person that the first person found choosing to have the peanut butter trivial and a choice. Yet if the first person is oblivious to the allergic person's major problems with the peanut butter and decides that just offering peanut butter is an acceptable choice because it was an acceptable choice for them, we have the same mental disconnect at work as we do regarding the vaccination for Covid-19.

Sure, not everyone that is refusing to get vaccinated is like the person allergic to peanut butter, but that is not the point of the comparison. The point of the comparison is to show the extreme point of view exhibited by the person that considers the choice trivial if it were applied to another situation.

Conclusion

Don't justify the discrimination against those who aren't eligible for a passport of privilege by saying it's just a choice. It shows you are thoughtlessly parroting propaganda designed to ease your conscience so that you can do the work of the regime in implemented a society where complete submission is required.

Instead, consider that the choice as a choice of conscience.

_______________

indicated that he couldn't allow any opinions that could spread
disbelief.

Nick Mills, the Wellington morning host, has over time
perfecting his technique for stopping callers, after initially just
talking over them proved too much for him. Last week he talked over someone who had lost his job due to the vaccine mandates, making sure to not let him speak more than several words before interrupting and filling the airwaves with his own voice. Later on, someone tried to say something was completely and utterly cut off, so who knows what was said that was so horrendous, that it was dumped without a word.

This censorship has been pointing to anything related to a negative opinion on lockdown and covid vaccination, more recently job losses due to mandates, and now vaccination passports. If you have a negative opinion about any of these topics, you are not invited share this opinion, and are likely to be rapidly shutdown if you dare speak.

The difference between the total free reign that callers get to talk if
they stay within the allowed opinions vs the disallowed is stark. I have considered phoning
in just to give an alternate view but have stopped myself multiple
times. Considering that my thoughts stray so far outside of what is deemed to be acceptable, the most I could hope for would be to say maybe five words before being summarily disconnected.

Even worse, politicians and political commentators can now get away with
openly stating that they do not want to be near an unvaccinated person
as if that person is unclean or contaminated.

Here's a clue if you are
confused as to why this is a problem - replace "unvaccinated" with any
other type of person and ask yourself if you would like to associate
with the type of person openly stating this sort of sentiment.

Labour
MP and Government Minister, Stuart Nash, has been the most egregious example of this type of
demonisation. He has repeated this position multiple times, that I have heard myself, that he does not want to be near an unvaccinated person, nor does he want his daughter near unvaccinated people, without any
apparent sense of shame over what he is saying. Nor was any challenge
made by any of the hosts of NewstalkZB involved in conversations with him when he has said these things.

Should there be any surprise, therefore, that Marcus Lush read out the following text on air last Thursday (18 November between 8:15 & 8:30pm):

"I think we should bring back the gallows for the

At last a definition

Last weekend, the definition of just what could be said and what could not was laid out explicitly in this article: Scorn for vaccine disinformation, published in the Sunday Star Times 14 November, 2021.

The article has since been renamed; currently is it called "A paper on vaccination in pregnancy co-authored by Simon Thornley has been panned by experts around the world". Most likely to continue to denigrate the target, who has since the original publishing has been successfully bullied into withdrawing the named paper, but that's another story.

Here is the definition of what constitutes thought crimes today in New Zealand, in 2021:

Given an environment of unvaccinated people feeling under pressure, particularly in traditionally female-dominated professions – plus a speaker, Thornley, who’s got “high possible impact owing to his status” – the paper would operate as disinformation.

“Or possibly malinformation – true information used with ill intent,” she says.

While misinformation is defined simply as false information, disinformation is false information created with the intent of causing harm.

What. The. Hell.

Long time readers of this blog will know of my Polish background and of the types of things I have written about over the years, most especially propaganda, disinformation and leftism. The above description has left me chilled me to the bone. Especially, "malinformation – true information used with ill intent".

So it doesn't even matter if what you say is true and recognised as true. If that truth is considered harmful as defined by someone who determines what is and isn't harmful, then you will be censored in today's New Zealand.

This explains the very active suppression of disallowed opinion in the mainstream media.

These deaths include a person that died from a gunshot wound, and a bunch of others that died from their underlying medical conditions. The Gunshot Wound death just highlights, in a way that is easily understandable to most people, that wherever the numbers can be inflated, they will be inflated.

Sure, Dr Bloomfield mentions that they will track this somehow in a way that the figures are all explainable, and wont be manipulated or misconstrued. Besides, (he says) it is the World Health Organisation that wants NZ and every other country to count these numbers in a way that may make them seem higher, so when such a reputable organisation requests this, there is no need to think that there is anything strange about counting Gun Shot deaths, or heart attacks, or cancer deaths as anything but COVID deaths.

Except when I go to the WHO website and look at their stats, I see they already have the data feed up showing 33 deaths in NZ due to COVID, using their warped reporting rules. So every single number going into these totals will be similarly tainted. Not by Gunshot Deaths per se, but by the practice of counting many forms of death as COVID deaths.

WHO COVID Dashboard - NZ Stats

I think counting deaths in this way inflates the numbers, amplifies the fear factor, and ultimately, increases distrust for those examining the figures.

Interestingly, I read an article about a research paper looking into deaths by the Flu in New Zealand. It noted that the flu contributed to deaths in a way that is the opposite of how the numbers are now reported with COVID. Whilst the Flu probably contributed to a death, hastening it at the least, the death was often recorded as the cause of the major health issue.

All of these studies show that increasing age is the single most important risk factor for influenza mortality. In New Zealand, 86 per cent of deaths occurred in those 65 years of age and over, a rate of 90.3 per 100,000.

Link to Source

COVID is much like influenza, impacting certain segments of the population more severely than others. In particular the elderly. It is likely that COVID19 could be taking weeks, months or years from the aged and infirm, so this is a serious disease. Is it serious enough to warrant the complete lockdown of cities and countries for months at a time, and forcing vaccination on a small group of people that don't want it? Some of the logic supporting this must depend on the numbers. Those numbers need to reflect the complexity of balancing the cost in lives lost in delayed surgeries, cancellation of early screening programmes, mental health issues arising from loss of job and family home and so on. It should also reflect the benefits of natural immunity, percentage of the population recovered and more.

So those numbers do become significant. The reporting mechanisms of those numbers are therefore worth scrutiny. An excerpt from the WHO website, where they freely admit that increasing the count is the way to go. Surely, our media will only use such numbers in a balanced discourse? Surely, people will not act as if the death count, measured in millions in a population of billions, seems to generate reactions imagining a 50% death rate, rather than perhaps less than 1%?

This means a positive COVID-19 test result is not required for a death to be registered as COVID-19. In some circumstances, depending on national guidelines, medical practitioners can record COVID-19 deaths if they think the signs and symptoms point towards this as the underlying cause.

The US CDC guidelines also make this clear with an example: the death of an 86-year-old female with an unconfirmed case of COVID–19. It was reported that the woman had typical COVID-19 symptoms five days prior to suffering an ischemic stroke at home. Despite not being tested for COVID-19, the coroner determined that the likely underlying cause of death was COVID–19 given her symptoms and exposure to an infected individual.

Link to source

It is a great shame that debate has been shut-down. As this goes on, the controls and measures are becoming more authoritarian, even as the numbers start to send conflicting information that should generate debate in a free society. In a democracy, the protection of individual rights are at the heart of a functioning society. This point is not well-understood by people. When we get to the end of this project, it may well be better understood, but by then the damage will have been done.

_______________

As insanity piling on insanity takes hold, local news demands attention, and the bubble of focus becomes quite small. Especially when you are working and have to think about work things.

However, having spend the last month researching news in Australia especially, with some British and US news thrown it, and having watched and read the voices of reason rather than whimpering bed-hiding as seems to be the case here in NZ, I can see that this phenomenon of media complicity in government messaging is widespread.

As Mark Dolan, of GB News (UK media) says in the video below (dated last week), the majority of the media don't want Covid restrictions to end.

Though, as lockdown fatigue has set in, the worm in turning slightly.

For the NZ Herald, Derek Cheng (who unwittingly helped expose Jacinda Ardern's creepy, totalitarian steak to the world) writes:

The Delta tightrope that Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been inching along since the start of the outbreak won't get any easier if she lets Auckland open up more next week.

But the fact she has signalled more freedoms - which can only mean Aucklanders will be more likely to catch Delta - shows how her decision-making has changed in recent months.

Step 2 of level 3 means retail shops, museums and libraries can open with no limit on numbers, and outdoor gatherings can be held for up to 25 people.

If that seems reckless for a city in the grip of rising cases numbers, then Ardern's counterpoints are fear of lockdown fatigue, and vaccination coverage.

The former appeared on Saturday when a protest of up to 5000 people marched through Auckland.

It's hardly a large proportion of people in a city of 1.7 million, but it only takes a small number to break the rules in a way that could see the virus spread far more widely.

What Cheng and NZ media will not say, is that the continuing compliance of New Zealanders allows this freak show to keep going. You cannnot comply your way to freedom, it never works that way.
_______________

Note carefully - it is 100% compliance, not 90% that has been requested. 90% is when they hope to have the vaccine passport checking system ready. Only 100% of people with passports can participate in society. It wont even matter if you take a test and come up clean, you MUST have the jabs and MUST have a passport.

This burden has been carried mostly by Brian Tamaki and his congregation, with most of everyone else cowed into submission and compliance.

With the most likely aim of really focusing everyone's attention on those who refuse to comply.

Aided and abetted by the MSM, Rod Jackson has been very actively spreading a covid message of doom and destruction. It seems nothing short of everyone jabbed will be enough for him.

Epidemiologist Rod Jackson says New Zealand's efforts on Super Saturday were brilliant.

"But there is a big 'but', and the but is there are 500,000 New Zealanders eligible for vaccination who will still remain unvaccinated on Monday," he says.

It's a small number compared with the 3.5 million Kiwis who have protected themselves but still enough to put pressure on the healthcare system.

"If the current outbreak in Auckland is anything to go by, one in ten of those people will need to be hospitalised, so that's 50,000," Jackson says.

He believes rather than counting up to a 90 percent vaccination target, we need to start counting down the number of harder-to-reach people who aren't yet vaccinated.

"I think we need to turn what we've been doing on its head and focus on that 500,000 because that is where all the death and destruction is going to happen."

While Super Saturday worked for many to help them get vaccinated, it hasn't worked for all, and Jackson says while there was plenty to celebrate, we will need to get creative about reaching the final 500,000.

It's always interesting to get a psychological background of those that have become media influencers during this Covid period. Well known media personalities tend to give their views over time, so people learn to take or leave their opinions in relation to everything else that person has said, and thus decide how much to take on board themselves and how much to disregard. It's a normal, human, filtering process that we all employ, even those that would consider themselves to be unbiased.

However, "experts" are more difficult to assess. They get wheeled out on single issues without the scrutiny on what they are like overall. All we know so far about these experts is that the majority of them seem authoritarian and oblivious to wider consequences. Well, at least those the media in NZ are happy to promote.

I don't know much about Rod Jackson, except what what he has promoted in the media. Is he a real fascist, or is he just a hyper-focused expert? I found a clue in his article published in The Conversation earlier this month, where he made a comment in reply to an inflammatory comment by Dennis N Horne recommending he read a post published on the Daily Kos.

The radio would turn on to wake me up with Jack Tame on Newstalk ZB talking about something trivial. Very little that was memorable, but that's what you want on a Saturday morning. Certainly you don't want something that is straight out of 1984 or a similar dystopian future.

When Jack Tame introduced his opinion on vaccination passports, I was initially disturbed. The disturbance then led to alarm which led to texting Jack just what I thought of his opinion.

John Key and the Wannabe Totalitarians

Sure, I've been hearing the same thing ever since John Key upset the narrative by coming out of hibernation. All and sundry and have been since espousing the benefits of a vaccination passport, the ultimate in protection, a bright, shining future where that the vaccinated will to be able to have full freedom of movement without fear of The Virus or Government Lockdowns. Those few that resist will eventually have no choice except to submit because they won't able to work or go to anywhere. So the story goes.

Government IT Projects

Initially I haven't been worried, because most government IT projects are slow and generally underestimated. Also, the changes involved in enforcing such draconian restrictions everywhere would be huge. They would require all businesses to be involved, therefore relying on mass compliance. Maybe this might get 50% off the ground, initially.

However, getting any further would rely on very bright people who tend to be somewhat contrarian and unlikely to want to help exclude New Zealanders from society if they don't have the correct medical treatments.

I don't want to go into more detail, not wanting help in any way, but am confident that democratic societies will struggle to continue down this path. Given that we don't have a recent history of people being carted off in the night to be never seen again, we just don't have the DNA for this level of social control.

Refusing a vaccine is a bit like smoking

Back to Jack, who started his opinion with his wonderful experience of logging onto an online database and to see his vaccination status for Covid-19. Even though the site was still under development, it could still show him he was fully vaccinated as of last week. The smugness virtually exuded through the radio waves.

Don't know how the vaccine does it, but it seem to have some sort of mind altering power, changing people who might have hesitated on the mandate vaccines for everyone path into slavish adherents.

This is what it seems to have done to Jack, who after talking about how vaccine passports were now going to be necessary for big summer events, continued with wanting them used almost anywhere; inferring that if you are not vaccinated against Covid-19, you should not be allowed to enter almost all premises.

Then we got to the thing that set me off, where he had to use a convoluted justification that involved the greater good of society while implying the unvaccinated are like smokers who have the ability to give him lung cancer.

The way I look at it, refusing a vaccine is a bit like smoking. As far as I’m concerned, you can choose to smoke a cigarette. The health impacts are well-documented, but that’s on you. However, the moment your choice impacts upon my health, the moment I’m sucking in second-hand smoke, we have a problem.

Your freedom to smoke a cigarette in a restaurant impacts my freedom not to get lung cancer.

The primary reason someone should get vaccinated is because the science is clear – vaccinations protect our health.

But a person’s choice not to get vaccinated impacts us all. If someone’s not prepared to contribute to the greater good of society, why should they benefit from a society’s collective rewards?

So much to unpack here.

The Smoking Analogy

Jack most likely used this analogy for several reasons.

Maybe he picked it up from John Key who referred to lung cancer deaths from smoking where you take the consequences from your lifestyle choices.

Maybe also because smokers in NZ used to be able to smoke in restaurants, so it is something many of us remember. Sometimes it was very unpleasant trying enjoy a night out in an environment where you were sitting near someone smoking. I remember what this was like in the 1980's, but would be surprised if Jack does, given his much younger age.

Anyway, I can concur with not wanting to be exposed to smoke indoors. However, a simple solution is to ask smokers to not smoke in the environment. Thus allowing the smoker into the restaurant, while keeping the annoying smoke out.

As an aside, my Dad died of smoking related lung cancer when I was in my early 20's. I grew up with him smoking at home and so far, no lung cancer here or in any of my siblings, two of whom smoke. Just being exposed to smoke is not going to give a person lung cancer.

The Virus is like Cigarette Smoke

Jack doesn't want to be exposed to is the virus, which is why he used the smoking analogy. The virus is like the smoke that he doesn't want to breathe in, which in his mind is likely to give him lung cancer, though hopefully I've managed to ease his mind that lung cancer is not that contagious.

Anyway, we have a way of dealing with smoking that has been accepted over time, that smokers do not smoke in restaurants in NZ. The smokers themselves are perfectly welcome to enter a restaurant, there is no mandate to ban smokers from restaurants yet, so here is where the analogy falls apart.

Vaccinated or not, you can't just choose whether or not to carry the virus. Maybe the vaccinated have less chance of carrying it (that is not clear from the latest studies - BMJ link), but if they do, you can't see them infecting others the way you can spot or smell a smoker in the act of smoking and demand that they take it outside.

A Vaccine Passport to enter a Restaurant is a lot like Fascism

Demanding that only vaccinated people can enter restaurants is a lot like barring smokers whether they are smoking or not. Smokers are not continuous chimneys that are always smoking and likewise the unvaccinated are not automatically always infected with Covid-19.

To ban the unvaccinated from restaurants because they might be infectious is where the fascism comes in. This banning of only the unvaccinated doesn't really stack up if the goal is to prevent transmission. Instead, it shows that the goal is to force compliance.

Greater good or good for Jack

Jack's final statement that if a person isn't willing to contribute to the greater good, then why should they benefit, is probably the most disturbing part of what he's written.

By virtue of our existence, I believe we all have the right to benefit from our society. Only the most heinous crimes, mostly involving murder, have typically excluded members, and then generally for a limited time. Otherwise, how we justify including those who are disabled or unwell or insane?

Reading between the lines of his opinion piece, it easy to see that the wider issues around what such a system would create aren't included in his definition of greater good.

No Real Debate

For such a potential fundamental change to NZ society, there has been very little public debate on the supposed greater good vs greater harm of segregating society by vaccination status.

It's not helped by the supposed political opposition wanting to go more totalitarian rather than less.

I'm in the strange position of feeling safer under the leadership of Jacinda Ardern than that of Judith Collins. [Edited 28 November 2021: Not anymore, Ardern has gone full jackboot and Collins changed her mind and then got rolled by the National Party]

Newstalk ZB excludes dissension

Where is Newstalk ZB's contribution to the greater good of society? Certainly not in encouraging debate.

On Jack's Saturday morning radio show, I know he received negative feedback to his vaccine passport opinion, because I texted my disagreement. I wasn't alone, because from the tone of his voice, it sounded like there were many who objected in a way that Jack couldn't quite deal with. He took the easy was out by only reading the positive feedback, with the proviso that he would read the ones that disagreed with him later. But later either never came or I missed that segment.

Jack Tame's treatment of dissenting opinions has been typical of the coverage Newstalk ZB has given to those objecting to the unfolding government Covid-19 vaccination push.

One of the late night hosts inferred on-air recently that he was uncomfortable with the direction the station was taking in regards to what opinions he could field from callers and which he could not. That's all he said, and maybe he was just thinking aloud as he was trying to come to terms with what he was told to do.

Though, just heard the talk host, Andrew Dickens, read out suggestions that everyone over five be vaccinated and his response was that doing so would be totalitarian! Interesting, so these hosts do have lines they don't want to cross yet. Or maybe he hasn't given the full memo.

What Next?

This is not just about Covid-19 and vaccination anymore. New Zealand is on the precipice of changing dramatically. The fact that debate is being squashed in the media should be very alarming to everyone.

Related links:

Jack Tame: We should use Vaccine Passports nearly everywhere (newstalkzb.co.nz)

Covid-19: Fully vaccinated people can carry as much delta virus as unvaccinated people, data indicate | The BMJ 19 August 2021

article on the above study - Vaccinated people are less likely to spread Covid, new research finds (nbcnews.com)

Sir John Key: We need to break free of the hermit kingdom and stop ruling by fear on Covid-19 | Stuff.co.nz

Covid-19 NZ: Judith Collins comfortable with supermarkets and airlines barring unvaccinated people | Stuff.co.nz
Note: I take no responsibility for the numbers posted above, they could be out by 1 or 2, except for Todd Muller's and Jacinda Ardern's numbers, which were very easy to count given there were so few tweets.
_______________
However, church services for more than 10 people are not allowed. No matter the size of the building nor the spacing between congregants, church cannot be trusted the way cafe patrons and public transport users are being trusted right now.

Hearing our Prime Minister justifying this the other day you'd thing church was all about 'mixing and mingling', which is what we need to avoid right now. And maybe it is for some, maybe the cups of tea and the flitting from person to person is what church is about for some after they've had their bit of prayer. But not all churches are set up this way, so it seems crazy (or is it just pure laziness?) to classify all churches as potentially hotbeds of infection due to massive social interaction.

So, my church is closed because the 10 person rule is just too restrictive, therefore no one can go in.

I don't go to church to do any mixing or mingling, I go for the Sacrifice of the Mass and when it's over, I'm out of there. Not keen on social chatting, not my thing.

I was hoping it could at least open so I could sit in a pew, with appropriate spacing in a very large building. Not like a bus where if you have 10 people in it, they'd still be closer together than in the church.

I'm thinking I might just sit outside the church, instead. Maybe others will do the same as well and gather outside their churches that they can't go into as a form of silent protest.

And if you think this doesn't affect you because you don't go to church, well then just think about what religious freedom means. It also means being free to choose your religion or being free to practice nothing.
