No. They know that when you remove content that is measurable and well-studied and replace it with stuff that few people read, then you have no objective way of ensuring standards of teaching are being met and children are being taught anything worthwhile. So, you leave the door open for individual ideologies to be taught instead."

Superb.Barnsley Billhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00404836788413532830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38893560.post-32202404502661217442008-11-15T19:58:00.000+13:002008-11-15T19:58:00.000+13:00"You can therefore create a generation of people w..."You can therefore create a generation of people who know very little, but think they are well-educated These sorts of people are very easily controlled."
Perhaps, but mostly 'rational decision making' requires at the very least a wide base of knowledge and the ability to draw from that ... as a means of hitting the target and reducing collateral damage. An ability that already seems somewhat lost if we look at social and educational policies for example ... and this an artefact, I believe, of not only the 'dumbing down' of education, but also the increased specialisation of 'skill.'
So "control" of people??? More likely the creation of very 'single minded' dangerous people.mojohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18400094599778512902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38893560.post-83010527133330978932008-11-15T15:33:00.000+13:002008-11-15T15:33:00.000+13:00Adam, thankyou.KG, I agree. There is so much in Shakespeare, that to take him out of education entirely is to eviscerate learning in this country.

Yet again, I am given more reasons to persevere with home-schooling!Lucia Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10485990994973953860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38893560.post-13790119136143175012008-11-15T14:03:00.000+13:002008-11-15T14:03:00.000+13:00As Harold Bloom pointed out, (in 'The Western Cano...As Harold Bloom pointed out, (in 'The Western Canon') Shakespeare said everything there was to say about the human condition.
