Pip - 14 year old murdered.  Suspects: Greenies. Grud on a Greenie! Greenies are thought to be behind the death of a prominent figure involved in oil exploration, and have slit the throat of their victim, as a sign to others that any form of oil and mineral activity in NZ will be met with extreme violence. The owners of a dog found with its throat slit believe it is linked to opposition to a proposed oil drilling venture on their land. Mark and Annabel Franklin found the body of their 14-year-old jack russell, Pip, on the deck of their farmhouse about 20 kilometres southeast of Dannevirke on June 9. Dannevirke police have been informed and are investigating. We can only theorize the Greenies deliberately targetted "Pip" due to Pips connections with the oil industry. Admittedly, Pip was a dog, and the connection was her owner, but perhaps this is the outcome when Greenies treat animals as humans? They are now equally responsible for their actions, and not bitin...

I wonder if young people are saying "That BP is so irresponsible - they need to get their act together like Exxon"? If this crisis goes another 30 days, or the spill drifts another 3,000 kilometers (which ever comes first) it will be time for an oil change and a tune up. And the jokes are coming as thick and fast as the oil, even if they are a bit crude. I've pulled a few of the slick ones here on the blog, but pump the link at the bottom for more.

Had a quick scan of the papers, and it seems to be a fairly quiet day in blog land. Doug McKay has been appointed the new head of the Auckland Super City . "McKay has 20 years experience at senior level – he has headed Lion Nathan, Carter Holt Harvey, Goodman Fielder, Sealord and most recently Independent Liquor." Looks like he has a good business background, and might even be able to get good deals on staff functions, always a bonus. I wish him luck. November 1 is not so far away, and there's a fair amount to get done between now and then. And that's without factoring in the politics. He's got a tough gig. Auckland also caught my eye today for a second reason - some visiting Hornets! Awesome. What's their range - 2000km? The mid air refueling on long trips must be a logistical nightmare. So when Hornets land, a huge support team cannot be too far away. I trust Auckland will practice her hosting skills for our good neighbours, and it's good ...

[The ETS - A train wreck waiting to happen] The ETS is unnecessarily un-uncomplicated, unnecessarily unfavourable and unnecessarily unilaterally unctuous. It lacks the 'un' found in unculpable. And I say this not unintentionally. It is unfortunately unethical and uncunning. Unbelievably, our uneducated politicians will undertake to push the legislation through to the unending shame that politicians are unable to feel. It's unforgivable. Understandably, we underestimate the under-achievements of the select committee as they uncritically uncover their own incompetence. They can't even manage to end the last sentence with uncompetence. They don't address the underlying issues and will driving New Zealand jobs and businesses under for unrealized gains. Is anyone unclear on this? I'm beyond underwhelmed - I'm under-awed, under-satisfied and under a cloud. The uncouthness is under our noses. Unjustifiably, we are put under the thumb. It's unexplainab...

As a follow up to the article on TBR and our post HERE , it seems that the Fire Service has issued a warning concerning the new compact fluorescent bulbs. The say to replace them if you notice them flickering as several fires may be linked to the new bulbs. More fuel to the fire I think, and reason to ditch the things.

We in the Counties area lost power for some 10 minutes tonight. Did a car hit a power pole? That was my first thought, being that it's rather wet and nasty and cold out there. So, torch in hand, I called our local power supplier. What's happening, I ask? He tells me that he's been ordered from higher-up to shed power. He doesn't really know when it will be on again or why it's happening (but he does mention the 'G' word - government):  just that they have to 'shed power' in our area (ie, to cut power to our area). I don't know what happened either, but I'm glad I have power back on the coldest night of the year so far.
