Destination Christchurch

Christchurch gets it's fair share of news headlines, and whilst the media focus on Napier today, I came across a couple of stories from the Garden City and another story from a few years ago. I originally called this post "Just Sick". It's not hard to see why. The penalties seem far too light in view of the crimes. Is that another aspect that is distinctly Christchurch? Or is this distinctly NZ? Police have dropped an ill-treatment charge against a Christchurch man caught on surveillance camera lifting a six-year-old girl by the head. Police prosecutor told Christchurch District Court Judge Michael Crosbie at a status hearing today that they would not proceed with the charge against Terrence Matthew Rangianoa Biddle, 20, unemployed. Maybe what he did was unwise, but caused no harm? A warning might be enough ? Next. A Christchurch man who repeatedly sodomised his two-year-old daughter while she struggled and screamed was today jailed for 10 years. [and a non-paro...

A fine day at the Council

Front page headlines - Councils set to fine dog owners $300 if they are caught walking their dog, without a plastic bag to pick up the dog poo. A serious fine for a very serious crime. Here's a partial list of current council fines: 1. Serious crime of no plastic bag in the vicinity of a dog: $300 2. Serious crime of no dog tag in vicinity of a dog : $300-$1500 plus registration fees 3. Serious crime of failing to notify Council of dead dog : $100 4. Serious crime of having puppy off a leash in public (5m from your gate): $500 5. Serious crime of dog being found without owner present: shot and dumped in a pit (free) And just so you don't think the Council hates dogs: 6. Serious crime of placing rubbish in a rubbish bin : $100 (now $400) 7. Wearing the wrong clothes (in spite of the council funded " it's what's underneath that counts "): $2000 (however, fines may accumulate for up to 10 years before being written off for non-payment ) This contrasts with ...

Who really is running in Mt Albert?

MacDoctor said it, this Mt Albert bye-election thingy is a bore . Sure political journos and political junkies are in their element but for the rest of us life goes on - ho hum. This disinterest probably holds true, even in Mt Albert, which is ground zero for this bye-election of course, and it is certainly true for the rest of us. Anyway given the very odd nature of our electoral system, there is every possibility that the electors of Mt Albert and the rest of the country besides are not aware who the candidates for this election really are. It is not necessarily the name on the ballot who will be the new face around Parliament. So as a public service to the voters of Mt Albert I have provided the starting line-up, thus far announced, for the race in Mt Albert. Place your cursor over the picture of each candidate to see who really has a dog in this race. National Act Greens Labour If Mellisa Lee is the chosen one then it will be dentist Cam Calder who will be the newest MP in ...

Trust me - I'm on the jab

A male contraceptive jab could be as effective at preventing pregnancies as the female pill or condoms, work shows. Although personalities were still seen as the most effective form of birth control. The monthly testosterone injection works by temporarily blocking sperm production and could revolutionise birth control, experts believe. Experts are people who don't realise a monthly prick in the rear end sounds just a bit gay. In trials in China only one man in 100 fathered a child while on the injections, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism reports. Although only one man in one hundred in China was actually engaging in sex with the opposite sex, given the shortage of women. Anyway, is 1 in 100 good enough odds? Six months after stopping the jabs the men's sperm counts returned to normal. With no long term side effects either. They hope. Family planning campaigners welcomed the news and said they hoped an injection would give couples more choice and enable...

US Pedophile protection act

Unbelievable. I am stunned. While many people could see that this would be the eventual outcome of the normalisation of homosexuality, it's one thing to predict something, it's quite another to see it actually happen. First hate crimes elevate homosexual persons to a protected class, and now this. Wrote Porter, "I've written extensively about how this bill would criminalize Christianity and turn those who disagree with the homosexual agenda into felons, but criminalizing Christianity is just the beginning of what this bill would do. It would also elevate pedophiles as a special protected class – since the term 'sexual orientation' which has been added to the 'hate crimes' legislation includes them in the American Psychiatric Association's definition of various 'sexual orientations."
