Some people spend hours arguing tree rings, ice core samples and moving weather stations as if that will prove AGW. Don't worry about it. Think of it as misdirection. Whilst you are reading a science journal, bureaucrats are figuring out new ways to take control of our lives by politicising the idea of Climate Change to ensure uncontested implementation of whatever policies take their fancy. Climate Science 101 is very simple. Don't look at the problem, don't even look at the political justifications to solve the problem, instead focus very hard on what the policy implementation is going to be. If you work from there, you will get a very different perspective on the politics of climate change. In today's From the Left opinion piece published in the Dominion Post, Chris Trotter compares those who believe that climate change is a scam designed to impoverish the world economy with Nazi sympathisers during WW2 . His opinion piece is titled, In the war for nature, the deniers are traitors . This is no mere hyperbole. There will be of course people who whisper that the enemy really isn't our enemy. That all our individual and collective sacrifices are quite unnessary. And that, if only we would stop listening to the alarmists and extremists, then this needless and terribly costly campaign could be brought to a happy conclusion. You may know that New Zealand's climate "scientists" are refusing to debate Lord Monckton on the matter. Here is what one has to say as to his reasons Climate scientist and Victoria University professor Martin Manning said the scientific community had decided not to engage with him because that would mislead the public. The science was done and there was no debate to be had, he said. This is what I would say to Professor Manning: " The science is never done Charlie Horse. Science only progresses because people challenge the prevailing wisdom and in the process expand our knowledge of how the world works. " What a waste of space - such abysmal ignorance of how science works should be a sackable offense.
