Back in the 1500's, the Inquisition was in full-swing in the newly reconquered Christian Spain (after 700 years of Islamic occupation). One of it's major aims was to uncover Muslims pretending to be Catholics. If you can imagine that to be Muslim in a reconquered country was most likely a subversive act. Those persons were like sleeper agents, hoping to take back the country for Islam, therefore rooting them out was imperative for the new regime.
Well it seems that Being Frank has uncovered it's own sleeper agent. A prolific commenter, masquerading a Catholic, has admitted to being Muslim. From comment #104:
While it makes sense of a lot, it also makes me really sad that a person will go to this much effort to pretend to be what they are not, making a mockery of the faith they pretend to believe in.
All this time I thought the person was just very confused. But it appears not.

The incarnation is inherent in the Holy Qu’ran, but in veiled form, as in Judaism.
Islam holds that Jesus will return at the end of time to judge all men.
To be able to properly judge all men one would have to be … God.
The Holy Qu’ran clearly describes the virgin birth of Jesus. His conception is described as an act of Allah. That makes Jesus … the son of God (which the Holy Qu’ran is careful to insist is a non-sexual conception).
Sure, most Muslims don’t yet accept this interpretation. But some of us do.

I'm not totally convinced the individual is anything at all. Just completely confused.
ReplyDeleteI'm not impressed with the way BF admin have handled it.
Of course, it's it impossible to know with any certainly what the real situation is.
ReplyDeleteDid you read the other huge conversation on abortion this week?
What struck me, before that slip (most Muslims ... some of us), was the conversation between BTM and CS about the talk given by BTM at CS's parish, where on #42 BTM is surprised that to his face CS agreed with his presentation, yet online is saying something completely different.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it struck me as evidence of a duplicitous character that goes beyond mere confusion. Which was the impression I've been getting over the long term, without wanting to be absolute in that assessment.
No, I didn't see that.
ReplyDeleteAll the more point to ban.
I think he's fascinated by arcane knowledge, being exclusive, and always moving on the bleeding edge of innovation.
ReplyDeleteIt's plain old pseudo-intellectual hubris, social gamesmanship, and the desire to be the centre of attention. IMHO.
FOS you mean? :-)
ReplyDeleteyeah, that too.
ReplyDeleteI think a ban would be in order if a polite request for the commenter to put a sock in it for a while doesn't work. Maybe if CS (and everyone else) was limited to 5 comments a day, then there would be more thought put into just what was said rather than spamming the site with the same old arguments.
ReplyDeleteQuite honestly, what is happening over there just wouldn't happen in too many other places because most blog owners don't allow people to take over their site in that way.
That a ban seems the only solution reflects the inability of the blog owners to police their own site.
It certainly makes for a great spectator sport - for a short time anyway.
I agree Lucyna but I think is needed now. Its not the first time this sort of thing has happened. The history is just too long.
ReplyDeleteAnd one must not forget, BF is an OFFICIAL entity of the Auckland diocese.
However, the unintended side effect is that the comments coming flying in, which looks good on the site. So why then would the admin want to ban their most successful comment generator? Take a look at the times CS isn't there - its WAY down.
Another thing interested me. I made the joke that Helen's Bay sounded like Pat Lythe. This was TOTALLY removed within minutes and no further comment from that poster has been seen.
