Friday night free for all

I've not been following the Winston saga in any great detail as I've been far more interested in the Nancy Pelosi gaffe and the implications for Catholic support for the Democrat party in the US. Especially now that Joe Biden has become Obama's running mate for the American presidency. I've been trying to write a post on this whole thing and I think I'm going to give up and let my post stay in my huge draft graveyard I've got going on NZ Conservative.

How's everyone's week been going? One of my kids was sick earlier in the week with ear infections and throwing up, but he's chipper now. I'm off to get pizza soon, so have put this post on a delayed timer, sort of. I'll probably be back by the time this post self-publishes. So, I'll see you all soon.

  1. Hmmm, very quiet so far. Maybe we need a picture ...

  2. Good evening Lucyna Maria.

  3. Kg, I've just sent you an email.

  4. Thankslucyna--I'll go look.
It's very quiet everywhere right now, not just here.

  5. Maybe everyone's exhausted themselves during the whole Winston affair.

    I sent another email back...

  6. Evening, hope the pizza was good - would be hard to beat those from Tuatara pizzas in Wanaka.

I'm pleased to learn I'm not the only one with a draft graveyard.

  7. Hi Homepaddock, pizzas were ok. They suffered from a distinct lack of cheese, something I've been noticing for a while now. I really wish pizzarias would just raise their prices and not skimp on the cheese! And ordering extra cheese doesn't always work either, so I'm loathe to pay for it.

You have a draft graveyard too! I'm not alone...

  8. hmmm..no wonder my posts are awful--I just type and hit "pot" without writing and checking a drafty copy.
    Evening Homepaddock.

  9. Evening all and I hope everybody is well. I am causing havoc over at the Standard blog snog and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

  10. Evening D5j--interesting how the minions at the standard are trying to avoid the whole Winnie/Helen thing, isn't it?

  11. D4J. Sorry. My fingers are frozen.

  12. Kg, the Winston saga must surely sink Clark's credibility?
    Enough is enough.

  13. Hi D4J!

KG, your posts aren't awful. Some things are really easy to write, and when I have one of those posts, I whack it out and hit post. Normally that involves something that is really clear in my head and I just have to write about it.

The type of posts in my graveyard are where a lot more thought and research is involved. I can't just type it out, I have to explain it, I have to be clear on all the facts and quite often I'm still thinking about it and it's implications. There's this thing women do where we think while we talk - well I kind of do it with some of my posts. Most of those types of posts never actually get posted because either the thoughts aren't clear or they are just unfinished and it's too much work to finish them due either to a lack of time or inspiration.

The one in this post that I've mentioned requires finding a news article from over a month ago from Scotland and the impact on the loss of a Labour seat due to the Labour party's policies on abortion and such like due to what a Catholic Bishop said - I've summarised it here, but I want to be sure that what I've remembered, I've remembered correctly before including it. And then I think, oh, it's just too hard and I don't have the time, so it sits in my draft graveyard.

  14. aaah, I see. Luckily, I don't write long thoughtful pieces Lucyna--mainly just rants and recycled stuff.
    Lack of confidence.
I'm not so sure, D4J--the Kiwi voter seems to have both a very short attention span and an amazing tolerance for corruption. (not just the Kiwi voter though--I suspect we Aussies are just as bad)

  15. oops--I'm a Kiwi now! I keep forgetting that small fact...

  16. Just sitting down now with a tandoori chicken in front of me!

  17. I'll be back in a little while. I'm reading the kids the Illiad (Black Ships before Troy by Rosemary Sutcliffe) for their bedtime story. I've got to say, I can see why the Illiad has lasted for so many thousands of years - it's a great story.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What a great story to read to kids. It's sad that so many children held captive by the state indoctrination system will never get to know what great stories there are out there.

Cheese sandwich and a beer here, Oswald. I is a simple soul....

  19. Right--off to do some work, pulling apart a Nissan navara ute instrument panel. Horrible job.

  20. A couple of days ago John Key said he wouldn't deal with Winston after the election unless he cleared himself of the current controversies. And today I think he effectively said he couldn't and wouldn't work with Winston full stop, regardless of the outcome. Bold move that is to be commended (though may prove to be naive).

However, while bold, it may not be so clever when after the election National + ACT + UF do not combine to form a majority. And this is a genuinely possible scenario. So who is left? Well only the Maori Party really. So methinks that Key has formed an understanding with the Maori Party just before he made the statement to steer clear of Winston. Is this so unlikely? I doubt it, Key has been building a relationship with the Maori Party for some time now. Therefore before announcing his definite divorce from Winston John saw the upcoming election as best case: Nats govern alone; and worst case: National + ACT + UF + Maori Party.

    ReplyDelete
  21. National has a pretty good relationship with the Maori party and was always more likely to go into coalition with them than Act or NZF.

Labour needs NZF. National doesnt. Nobody needs Act or UF.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would agree that even before Key's announcement, National would be better off forging an agreement with the Maori Party than NZF post election. I disagree however that the Maori Party are a more likely partner than ACT (unless the numbers said otherwise but we don't know that yet).

Yes, Labour needs NZF. But it is silly to say that no-one needs ACT or UF. Nats won't stay around 50+% by the election, even if there is no bad press between now and election day. They just wont and National know it. ACT and UF will almost definitely be playing a part post election and they need to increase their current vote now while NZF are down.

  23. Hi Oswald, Sean, Dave.

I'm seriously considering the lemon cheesecake icecream I have in the fridge.

Nah, better watch the waistline. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  24. So who's going to eat it then Lucyna? Coz putting it off for another day doesn't help the waistline long term!

    ReplyDelete
  25. And did you make that lemon cheesecake ice-cream yourself? We know you have a lemon tree on your property...

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'll eat it eventually, Sean. No one else likes it, apart from me. And no, I didn't make it myself, it's just a Kapiti icecream bought from the supermarket. After that struggle with temptation, I've settled on praying the Rosary instead. One decade down so far.

  27. Try the Rush Munroe banana ice cream some time.

Then you WILL have something to give up for Lent!
