Oh Georgia,
No peace, no peace I find
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind)
Already, Russia blames Georgia.
How can Georgia attempt to justify what they are doing? It was Georgia who started the bombing in South Ossetia. Russia had to respond to protect the citizens who had Russian passports.
Georgia blames Russia.
As I write, Russia is waging war on my country...This war is not of Georgia's making, nor is it Georgia's choice.
and the [leftist] West blames America and oil.
If the US were not so hell bent on building their empire and dominating oil supplies then none of this would be happening.
President Saakashvili already has hit the g-spot with some commenters.
Saakashvili must be blamed by international community for committed genocide.
Some are more interested in the hardware.
I would prefer watching an aerial combat between Su-35 and F-35. I believe that the russian iron is much better and their pilots are smarter, but that needs to be proven in a real fight.
But all it does is lead back to America.
This is not Georgia vs Ossetia. This is US vs Russia.
And we cannot trust the propaganda machine
We 'simply cannot trust the West'. Your mass media always tell lies about Russia.
Some-one wonders why US President Obama is already involved. Sorry, US Presidential Candidate Obama.
On whose authority does Barrack Obama have to be speaking directly with the Georgian president? This is outrageous and potentially detrimental to resolving this crisis
And lets analyze it a bit more.
This conflict is certainly looking more and more like a US Russian war played by proxy using Sth Ossetia as the 1st testing ground.
If the US were not so hell bent on building their empire and dominating oil supplies then none of this would be happening.
Again from the President:
Why this war? This is the question my people are asking.
I think the question is "How to stop?"
Tonight, I will pray for the civilians caught up in this mess. The picture of the brothers just breaks my heart. A thousand stories like this, every day somewhere. We all have so much to lose. Some have already lost so much.

A fine post there Zentiger.
ReplyDeleteI was going to post something later with the same title as I recall that song too.
Did you see all he comments from Russians over at the Hive today?
There were masses of them, all backing their Putin.
But the Georgians hit back too.
It was quite a debate.
Thanks FFM. I haven't caught up with the blogs much today. Just a wee bit on the DPB, caught a glimpse of the Olympics and then, wham! saw the front page of the DomPost late in the day and another war.
ReplyDeleteI'll check it out.
It's always America's fault, first and last. i wonder when the left will be gathering in numbers outside Russian consulates with caricatures of evil Putin and marching day in and day out against Russia’s illegal war.
ReplyDeleteAfter all if it’s good enough for Iraq, where they opposed the liberation from a real tyrant why not Georgia from the Russian tyrants. From what i’ve read Russia is doing this for oil and isn’t bringing democracy, schools and hospitals to Ossetia like America did in Iraq. Perhaps that, along with the ousting of an actual tyrant, is what grated the most with the left.
Yes time to be careful. Georgia was foolish. It launched the attack to "retake its territory", killing many in the process. Russia now has every excuse to take Georgia on.
ReplyDeleteNeither side is even remotely close to innocent.
MK, perhaps it escaped ypur notice, but Iraq had schools and hospitals before the American nvasion. Don't fall for the propaganda, the yanks are only rebuilding what they destroyed.
ReplyDeleteIraq may not have ahd democracy as we know it, but under Saddam Hussein's rule women had more rights than they have now, and as each day goes by, women' are losing more rights.
As for the "war" in Georgia, read this for another's perspective.
http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/letters/the-truth-is-its-not-russia-that-is-the-aggressor-20080811-3tle.html
"..the yanks are only rebuilding what they destroyed."
ReplyDeleteBullshit--Iraq now has more functioning hospitals and schools than they had before the invasion.
And more newspapers and television stations and powerplants and sewage treastment works.
I suggest you do some serious research, Fugley instead of parrotting leftard talking points.
KG hasn't said that at all Fugley. Try to stay on point man. Arguing against your own imaginary points isn't that interesting.
ReplyDeleteOne of my points in my post (remember my post?) was the observation the anti-western left wing stereo-type were quick to condemn all things Georgian as the fault of the USA. Linking it to Iraq was the next predictable thought I suppose.
This post isn't about Iraq. It's not about how bad Saddam was prior to the US going in. It's not about how many women Uday raped and murdered. It's not about the fact that lefty reporters claimed that trade sanctions killed 500,000 Iraqi children, a number that got proven to be so totally wrong you'd think they would have learned not to exaggerate the numbers killed by US troops adfter that point. It wasn't about the suspected genocide of Saddam on Kurds, and it wasn't about the fact Saddam had contracted with France to build nuclear reactors, something that helps position an illicit nuclear weapons program.
No, it was about none of that. It's about Georgia.
PS: Your link didn't work.
well zen excuse me for responding to KG.
ReplyDeleteI now know that this post (and this blog?) is all about you.
Sorry the link didn't work, but blame your stupid blog software that insists I use firefox or my posts aren't accepted.
So, here, in full breach of copyright, is the letter from today's Melbourne Age (www.theage.com.au)
WHAT are the undeniable facts of the conflict that started on the day of the Olympic Games opening? Georgia, using the Games as cover, made a dash for cash, barely four hours after its President had publicly declared that he had no intention of using force.
In an area with UN-sanctioned peacekeepers and no overt conflict in progress, Georgian troops started shelling the peaceful city of Tskhinvali, using artillery and its air force. The people being killed and driven out of their homes are claimed by Georgia but are of a different nationality. Refugees are fleeing towards the Russian border — they know which way safety lies, even if the world hears a different story.
In the first hours of fighting, 10 Russian peacekeepers were killed. These are men who were performing their duty, supported by the United Nations. The Georgian military viewed them as valid targets, shelling their barracks.
The Russian President, barely four months in the job, is confronted with his country's peacekeepers being killed and genocide on his doorstep.
The Georgian gamble of a quick victory under the cover of darkness failed — now its President is scared and trying to frame himself and his country as a victim of aggression. It's up to the world to learn the truth of the matter.
Alex Radun, Dandenong
"So' KG are you denying Iraq had functioning schools and hospitals prioor to the american invasion?"
ReplyDeleteNot what I said.
"Is it your claim that Iraq was incapable of building hospitals and schools?"
Not what I said or implied.
"And why don't you give a tinker's cuss about the loss of women's rights in Iraq?"
Show me the evidence--where and when have I ever stated or implied that?
The fact is, you're incapable of staying on-topic, partly at least because you've spent so much time in the leftard swamps, absorbing the lies and half-truths peddled about Iraq by the left, so you think you know something about it and can't resist bringing it up.
Why comment and confirm what's already obvious--that you're a dishonest lamebrain little socialist?
Don't attempt to put words in my mouth or ascribe to me positions and opinions I don't hold.
Zen, Wolf Howling has some excellent background stuff on this conflict.
ReplyDeletehttp://wolfhowling.blogspot.com/
I now know that this post (and this blog?) is all about you.
ReplyDeleteHeh. Nice try. Not quite about me. Mostly about Georgia. Luckily I'm so egotistical and self absorbed, that comment is like water off a drakes back :-)
Appreciate the time to post the letter though - I did spend a few minutes looking for it.

I'll test Explorer(?) when I get a moment. Could be a cookie issue?
Are you having your blogger ID rejected, and therefore cannot comment, or can't make links?
fugly's blog ID is a type of Chinese fungus, much like a fetid algae.
ReplyDeleteWHAT are the undeniable facts of the conflict that started on the day of the Olympic Games opening? Georgia, using the Games as cover, made a dash for cash, barely four hours after its President had publicly declared that he had no intention of using force.
ReplyDeleteYep, neither side is blameless. But the conflict started well before the opening ceremony. If the Georgian President thought he ever had a chance of winning this war, then picking a time to strike would be important.
However, whilst Russian commentary begs the west to regard Russia in a new light, the Kremlin's move puts paid to that hope.
Russia just succeeded in reaffirming old opinions. It seems a bear never changes his spots.
Thanks KG.
ReplyDeleteIt was Vladimir Putin who described the collapse of the Soviet Union as "the greatest tragedy of the 20th century".
ReplyDeletePeople in the West need to bear that in mind--supported by the wealth from vast oil and gas deposits, Russia under Putin (make no mistake, Medvedev is merely window-dressing)has no use for the so-called "soft power" beloved of European politicians.
Soft power won't constrain the Russian bear.
One of my blog pals gave me this link from Georgia http://georgiamfa.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteIt was disgusting that Putin was Time's Man of the Year last year.
