A recent Time Magazine article has quoted a Vatican official who stated that if Obama signs the Freedom of Choice Act in his first months in office, "it would be the equivalent of a war." In other words, it would start a metaphorical war between the Obama Administration and the Catholic Church. For, as we all know, the Catholic Church is not a military organisation, even if Popes in the past have been military commanders.
A number of blogs have taken news of this potential "war" and ran with it. Even I have put it in my title to direct attention to this post. But war is a strong word. Is it the correct one?
Maybe it is. The Freedom of Choice Act will wipe out all gains that pro-lifers have made in the US since Roe vs Wade with one stroke and make it impossible to restrict abortion in anyway, or to object to performing abortions. In other words, there will be absolutely no protection for the unborn at all - thus signalling an all-out war on innocent human life in the womb. It will be a complete release of evil masked with false compassion in the most powerful country in the world.
If that doesn't justify war, I don't know what does.
