Baby Boom in Gaza

Israel moved out of Gaza in 2005 and the Palestinians rushed to occupy the vacated homes. What happened since then, and why are there so many children (an average of 6 per family)?
As the world decries Israel's attempt to defend itself from the rocket attacks coming from Gaza, consider this: When Hamas routed Fatah in Gaza in 2007, it cost nearly 350 lives and 1,000 wounded. Fatah's surrender brought only a temporary stop to the type of violence and bloodshed that are commonly seen in lands where at least 30% of the male population is in the 15-to-29 age bracket.
Further on, it raises the issue of how welfare dependency creates more problems than it solves:
The reason for Gaza's endless youth bulge is that a large majority of its population does not have to provide for its offspring. Most babies are fed, clothed, vaccinated and educated by UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. Unlike the U.N. High Commission for Refugees, which deals with the rest of the world's refugees and aims to settle them in their respective host countries, UNRWA perpetuates the Palestinian problem by classifying as refugees not only those who originally fled their homes, but all of their descendents as well.

UNRWA is benevolently funded by the U.S. (31%) and the European Union (nearly 50%) -- only 7% of the funds come from Muslim sources. Thanks to the West's largesse, nearly the entire population of Gaza lives in a kind of lowly but regularly paid dependence. One result of this unlimited welfare is an endless population boom. Between 1950 and 2008, Gaza's population has grown from 240,000 to 1.5 million. The West basically created a new Near Eastern people in Gaza that at current trends will reach three million in 2040. Within that period, Gazans may alter the justifications and directions of their aggression but are unlikely to stop the aggression itself.

  1. Nice ironic title, given the tendency some Palestinians have of parading children with explosives strapped to them...

  2. And isn't it interesting how little support Arab countries give them?
Iran, too has threatened to cut off funding for Hamas if they reach some kind of accommodation with Israel--demonstrating nicely that the Palestinians are no more than a useful tool for beating on Israel.
But our media couldn't possibly look at some of these facts, eh?

  3. why are there so many children

an explicit policy on the party of Fatah and Hamas to out breed Israel and to have lots of suicide bombers

this plan is succeeding on both fronts.

and it it why - of course - eradication of Gaza and the West Bank is the only possibility for a final solution to this "problem"

  4. "and it it why - of course - eradication of Gaza and the West Bank is the only possibility for a final solution to this "problem"

The form I'd like to see that "eradication" take is for the West to be able to pressure Arab countries to take in the Palestinians.
They won't do it, of course because the Palestinians have proved to be impossible to live with, as Jordan discovered some time ago.
All the same, I still believe that if the thugs who run the place could be neutralized and the schools and mosques cleaned up, some kind of peace could be imposed on Gaza. But it would take a massive effort of effective monitoring and supervision, free of the bleeding-heart idiocies of the EU and U.N.
A betting man would have to put his money on war instead.

  5. To those figures can be added that UNRWA has 29,000 staff providing aid to 4.5 million Palestinians compared to 6300 staff providing aid to over 11 million other refugees the world over.

And of those 29,000 staff, over 99% are Palestinians. UNRWA is headquartered in Gaza, lives cheek by jowl with Hamas and has an absolute interest in perpetuating unrest and violence in the territory.

  6. Fascinating, JC. Do you have any links? It'd make a great [post.

  7. KG,

I see I got the 29,000 figure wrong. Should have been 24,000.

To think of it another way, the UN devotes about one aid worker per 1750 refugees in the rest of the world.. and about one to 200 Palestinians.

  10. "Iran, too has threatened to cut off funding for Hamas if they reach some kind of accommodation with Israel" - care to provide a link to some sort of evidence of this KG?

    ReplyDelete
  11. No, Sean--it's not my job to spoon-feed you.
I do a hell of a lot of reading and if I saved links to everything read the desktop would be cluttered with sticky notes.
Are you suggesting I'm a liar, and simply invented that statement?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Spare me the excuses, KG. What is clear to me is that you don´t have any form of supporting evidence to that statement. You can draw your own conclusions all you want. Have a nice day.

    ReplyDelete
  13. "Excuse"? I give you a fact and it becomes an 'excuse', ..pathetic.
What's "clear" to you is only clear because you're an ignorant prat who assumes people aren't telling the truth, based on no evidence whatsoever.
I'm having a great day, thanks.
And here's an excerpt and the the link, since you're a graceless little turd who doesn't accept a person's word:
"As soon as the Iranians heard about the Egyptian cease-fire initiative, they dispatched the two officials to Damascus on an urgent mission to warn the Palestinians against accepting it," the Egyptian government official told the Post.

"The Iranians threatened to stop weapons supplies and funding to the Palestinian factions if they agreed to a cease-fire with Israel. The Iranians want to fight Israel and the US indirectly. They are doing this through Hamas in Palestine and Hizbullah in Lebanon".

  14. Oops, meant to post this earlier. I'll add another source to kg's post and hopefully head off a middle eastern style conflict on this blog:

Back in 2006, Ahmadinejad offered to move from "moral support" to financial support of Hamas, when and if Israel cut off aid.

Perhaps they helped ensure the Palestinian blood bath between Hamas and Fatah (who was apparently funded by the USA). About 350-600 Palestinians died (I've seen different numbers).

Came across a cool word for this fight:

The conflict is called Wakseh among Palestinians, meaning humiliation, ruin, and collapse as a result of self-inflicted damage. (Wikipedia)

Here's one link: Iran offers mullahs moolah

    And in 2007:

The leader of Hamas says he has been urged by Iran to continue their stand against Israel, as he announced that Iran will fund his party as western blockades against his government continue.

    Iran urges Hamas to fight

I think Iran wants the US and her allies out of the region. Or is that Israel and her allies out of the region?

Irrespective of whose side one is on, it is plain to see all the ingredients for ongoing escalation are there as Iran gains strength.

  15. Well I´m glad you came up with the link eventually KG. The original comment didn´t come across as one to be made just in passing. We´ll obviously have our own views as to the credibility of the source and the bias of the journalist, but then that will almost always be the case whereever a link is provided from.

Hope you didn´t use too many sticky notes to get back there.

  16. Nah, I just tripped over it when picking up the latest news from JPost Sean. (The sticky notes are on the Mac screen and those not in use get cleaned out frequently)
As for the credibility of the source--it quotes named Egyptian sources for the info, which seems pretty straightforward.
    Pax.

  17. 'and it it why - of course - eradication of Gaza and the West Bank is the only possibility for a final solution to this "problem"

Can I take it that this some sort of joke? I suppose the reference to a 'final solution' gives it away, but you can never be too sure, it seems. It amazes me how supporters of Israel who argue for genocide (Avigdor Lieberman called for a nuclear strike on Gaza the other day) can't see the irony of what they are saying.

  21. I cannot believe this is a christian website!! Palestinian people have been denied their basic human rights for many years due to Israels aggressive, expansionist policies. If you want a true assesment of the situation it helps to know people who work out of Gaza, who have lived in both Palestine & Israel & who can be objective. A lot of you people are downright racist! israel is a state so I dont see how you can be called anti-semitic when your against the genocide they are committing in Palestine. Also only 5% of Jews in the world are actually semites the rest being sumerians or khazars. Hamas were a democratically elected party who were demonised by the Israeli Govt & the Us because of the hardline negotiating they wanted to do on behalf of the Palestinians to get back their stolen land. The Israelis have billions of dollars they spend on Propaganda & all the palestinians have is the people on the ground. The ignorance of NZ people & their red-necked attitudes towards this subject are disgraceful to say the least! I will be reporting some of you for inciting racism if I continue to see your hateful comments arising in the future.
To celebrate death & suffering is hardly christian like, regardless of the history.

    Speaking for myself only:
Piss off, you arrogant little cow. YOU will be reporting? What are you exactly, some Stasi-style snitch or just a self-righteous little prat who presumes to police free speech?
Visit my blog and I'll let you know what I really think about your kind, because I'm heartily sick of the kind of gibbering, nannying, Utopian fuckwits you represent.
You've done more damage to Western civilisation in half a century than all the primitive hordes who went before you.
Some achievement--and you don't even have the self-awareness to be ashamed.

  23. KG, if she were here in the U.S., she'd obviously be busy with her drool cup - he##, along with all the other Obamabots, she is probably getting her "lists" together, so she can offer them to the powers-that-be when they come knocking on her door ................. hope her neighbors keep her happy with them - I have a feeling, before it's all said & done, the Obama administration will make Joe McCarthy look like a piker .................. we already have a nitwit VP who claims it's "patriotic" to pay one's taxes without complaint - ummmmm, how's that workin' out for ya, Smirky? Geithner {a deranged leprechaun if ever I saw one}, Daschle, Solis, etc., etc., ad nauseum ................. what the twitless wonder conveniently forgets in her harangue about 'Christian websites' is that God has a covenant with the people of Israel - and most apocalyptic authors believe that once the U.S. abandons Israel, it's pretty much all over but the shouting {or shooting, as the case may be} - I've a very simple piece of jewelry, a Star of David with a cross worked in - since Christianity is derived from Judaism, I think I'll continue to stand by Israel .................... the Palestinians, to the best of my knowledge, have done NOTHING for the world, other than provide themselves as perpetual victims ..............
