I score the Leaders debate to John Key. Helen Clark was good enough that Labour voters would not be swayed, but some of the centre voters might also give the edge to John Key. Now to sit back and wait for the leftist commentary.
Rudd's $10bn Golden Goose. http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/rudds-10b-golden-goose/2008/10/14/1223749999940.html
THE PACKAGE - families will receive a Christmas bonus of $1000 per child - single pensioners will get $1400 - pensioner couples will get $2100
FIVE KEY MEASURES - $4.8 billion down payment on long-term pension reform - $3.9 billion for low and middle income families - $1.5 billion investment to help first home buyers - $187 million to create 56,000 new training places in 2008-09 - Accelerate three nation-building funds and investment in nation building projects to 2009
Cynically, a Christmas bonus to families is a political masterpiece.
However, this far out from the next election though, an interesting gesture and political methods of the way the money is carved aside, a generous effort to make a difference.
The results on the phone poll are in and validate my pick: Key cleaned up with something like double the votes, and there was a large pool of voters. That will thrill National.
Hopefully, they'll try harder. Now's not the time to sit back and bask in the relief of one good showing.

Yes John Key did us proud and better than expected.
ReplyDeleteDear Leader looked so sour and pulled so many faces.
I agree FFM, Clark looked like she was sucking a lemon from Benson Popes dungeon.
ReplyDeleteKey needs to be more blunt and say "Why should we trust you? You have lied for last 9 years to the public we are in the toilet."
He also needs to raise her heckles by pointing out she always runs away from the hard questions.
Meanwhile, have you noticed this:
