Catholic Bishops in Australia getting vocal over the Greens

There's a State election coming up in New South Wales, in Australia this Saturday on the 26 March, and it looks like the Greens are getting a little bit of unwelcome scrutiny from the Catholic Bishops.

AUSTRALIA, March 18, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In the lead-up to a March 26 state election, the Catholic bishops of New South Wales, Australia, have issued a declaration condemning the pro-abortion and anti-family agenda of the state’s Green Party.

The bishops note that while “abortion involves the deliberate killing of an innocent unborn child, and current NSW law offers some limited protection to mothers and their unborn children,” the Green Party “will pursue the removal of abortion as an offence under the Crimes Act in the next parliament.”

They also point out that the party supports a law “that specifically denies doctors and other health practitioners the right of conscientious objection to participating in or being associated with the practice of abortion.”

“It is remarkable,” they say, “that such offensive laws could be passed in an Australian parliament, denying individuals the fundamental freedom of belief, conscience and religion.”

Regarding the practice of killing terminally ill patients, which the Catholic Church condemns, the bishops lament that “the Greens sought to introduce euthanasia legislation into the NSW Parliament last year and almost succeeded.”

The bishops also note that the Green Party supports homosexual “marriage” and the legalization of addictive recreational drugs.

The party is also seeking to cut funding to Catholic schools and require private educational institutions to hire people who do not agree with their convictions, another provision that is perceived as anti-Catholic.

Cardinal George Pell has also been a very vocal opponent of global warming.

Cardinal George Pell has also publicly attacked the theory of catastrophic global warming, which is promoted by the Green Party and is used by environmental groups as a rationale for global population control.

Following Senate testimony by Dr. Greg Ayers, the head of Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, supporting the theory of catastrophic global warming and criticizing Pell for his opposition, Cardinal Pell blasted him as a “a hot-air specialist.

“I’ve rarely heard such an unscientific contribution,” Pell added.

Ouch! Hot-air specialist! That's gotta hurt!
