That 111 call

I listened to David Bain's infamous 111 call when he reported his family all dead, and could not hear the alleged words, "I shot the prick".

However, there is something odd in that part, a change in the style of breathing exhalations. Something to bring up on the cross-examination? No, that's right. He never testified. Funny that.

  1. Could you write a post that makes sense? What is your point?

  2. What's my point? I don't understand the blog post. Any chance of explaining?

  3. *snicker*...well, there's one very obvious explanation..

  4. Stripe,

what exactly don't you understand? Have you read the related link that would give you more context into what the post is actually about? Do you know who David Bain is? Are you actually interested in the subject matter?

If you don't like my posts, don't read them. But, quite honestly, your "I don't understand" rings really false to me. In other words, disagree with me, but don't go all passive aggressive.

  5. I read the links and am somewhat familiar with the story. I haven't closely followed the details so you may well be talking about something obvious that I've missed.

I simply cannot parse your text. There are a whole bunch of pronouns that reference unknown things and your use of commas is confusing.

    Can you explain?

  6. Lucia posts some of the most well constructed arguments anywhere, and I can only aspire to emulate. For real confusion, got through some of kiwiblogs threads and look for Philu. On the Bain trial, the only thing proven was the police need to smarten up their act.

  7. Leonidas,

    Thank you!

    Stripe,

    No, I will not explain.

I haven't had a lot of dealings with you in the comment threads, so I really have very little idea of what you are like intellectually, ie what level to pitch the explanation at, were I to play your game.

You basically want me to do a whole lot of work spelling out in expanded detail what a six sentence post means to a person that gets stuck on commas and the reference of "unknown things".

Not a good incentive when your first comment on this thread leads with an insult.

In other words, I do not believe you don't understand, therefore I'm not playing.

  8. Commas, pronouns, unknown things?

    What's up Stripe?

There are only two paragraphs. The first paragraph has one sentence. It basically says that Lucia listened to David Bain's 111 call and the bit where some police guy swears David Bain said "I shot the prick", Lucia says she couldn't make that phrase out at all.

The second paragraph has 5 sentences and two commas.

To answer your indeterminate questions (I can't figure out your own list of unknown things) with a question:

Why do you think the defence was careful to keep David Bain off the stand and therefore not have to testify or be cross-examined about his testimony?

Their defence tactic was to divert all scrutiny from David and focus on making Robin look like the killer.

I haven't followed the trial, and I'm one of the few people in NZ that don't have a firm opinion either way on his guilt, although I think it a very strong point Lucia makes about David Bain not taking the stand and explaining in his own words what happened that morning.

  9. Thanks, Zen.

So the "odd part" was that David Bain did not take the stand?

  10. David Bain IS the "odd part"

  11. :chuckle:

Now THERE'S a sentiment easy to understand :)
