ReplyDeleteI've been looking for such an album for a while but haven't been able to find anything that really fits what I am after. That clip is perfect.
I find the music deeply calming.
In relation to that, Lucyna have you seen the film Into Great Silence, which takes a snapshot of the lives of the Cathusian monks at the Grande Chartreuse in the French Albums.
It's supposed to be quite moving, but also disturbing in the sense that it is mostly silence... something hard to really cope with in our busy lives.

ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the film, but I'd like to. I have to remember to keep an eye out for it at Video/DVD hire place. Hopefully they'll have it.
I did a silence retreat last year with a group of women. I think we lasted one day before the chattering starting. It was a two-day retreat, so I suppose that wasn't bad. However, while keeping silent was very difficult, I missed it after the silence broke as it changed the retreat experience quite dramatically. I'm doing it again this year in a month so, hopefully we'll all last a bit longer.
So, I can understand how looking at a film that is mostly silent would be disturbing.
I'm trying to get a copy of the DVD and soundtrack for review at the moment. I read someone else recommend approaching it as a meditative experience rather than as a film.

ReplyDeleteI looked up the reviews on Amazon and that's what the reviewers that I've read have said as well.
Also, your first comment on how calming you find the music reminded me of an article I read a while back on the effect of music on the emotions and the soul. So I've updated my post to an article of similar nature, as I can't find the exact one I was thinking of.
