Friday night free for all

It's the Friday leading into a long weekend ... probably means things will be real quiet around these parts. Add to that the desire of the need to talk about the budget (where most NZ political internet seems to be centered), and NZ Conservative will be in a temporary oasis of tranquility for the next couple of days. Maybe.

So, to take advantage of the quiet, I Romanised my pseudonym. Lucyna Maria is now Lucia Maria. Of course, changing all the category tags manually is not fun. I'll consider it my penance for earlier in the week.

  1. Just popping in to say 'good evening' Lucia--then we're off to try and catch an hour's sleep before night shift.
    Hope everything is well there!

  2. Hi KG,

We are all well here. And the one that is recovering from concussion is doing his maths, and trying not to think about missing out on his computer time.

So you are off to work - hopefully it won't be too busy for you both.

I do have one bit of news. We bought a kitten a couple of weeks back. A little male tabby, with some Bengal genetics in him. Probably will grow up to be a very strong cat. He's still trying to make friends with our two female cats, one of which totally hates him.

  3. Howdy all. All two. And perhaps 3.5 lurkers.

  4. Howdy Zen. The forecast is looking horrible, eh?
Your new Bengal cross sounds like fun. Any pics yet?

  5. I'm hoping it will be very busy Lucia--boredom is intolerable and tiring, too.

  6. One for the road folks. Sorry to sound so serious.

"Accumulating knowledge is a form of avarice and lends itself to another version of the Midas story ...man [is] so avid for knowledge that everything that he touches turns to facts; his faith becomes theology; his love becomes lechery; his wisdom becomes science; pursuing meaning, he ignores truth."

  7. Good evening everyone.
Hope you are not too cold.
It is even cold up here.
Like KG, I too would like to see pics of the kitten.
I like the pic of the Blessed Margaret with the Pope.
She's not going to convert is she?

  8. It's cold here. Don't believe the hype about insulation - get a heat pump!

  9. Howdy everyone. Just got back from a friend's PhD party so thought I'd stop by.

  10. So what does one do at a PhD party these days?

  11. Didn't realise I was signed in as MandM - oops!

Don't heat pumps cost heaps to run? Our place is a run down 70's heap but whoever built it insulated it so it is dry and holds the heat well.

  12. Howdy all. Flitting in and out ce soir. Have the heat pump, Scrubone and it's so cool it's hot. Or is it so hot, it's cool? Not sure.

mzala, with a quote like that, you didn't just come from a PhD party too did you? :-)

  13. It was at Laidlaw - so speeches mostly followed by some socialising and nibbles.

Stuart didn't attend his graduation (in Otago) so this was his alternate celebration.

  14. Haven't had it long enough to correlate the bills with last year, but they are supposed to be reasonably efficient. If you have insulation already, then it would make a heat pump even better, as you get the temperature just right and cruise...

  15. We use a gas heater for when it gets cold - costs less than $20 to fill it and it generally does us a month in Winter. It gives instant heat and we don't get any condensation issues or anything with it so its great.

  16. Samuel Dennis has a post on his blog saying he has just completed his thesis. I said over there it is worth it to stop and celebrate that event.

Same applies for Stuart - good reason to have a party, and taking time out to celebrate the milestones achieved is a good thing.

  17. We have a gas heater too. That works brilliantly for us too. We got the heat pump mainly for cooling in summer, but it's in a different part of the house, so it will get a good work out this winter too.

  18. When we build a house we plan to install one, mostly for the humidity/heat issue in summer as I am a cool climate kinda girl so I really struggle with northern summers.

Must stop by and congratulate Samuel.

  19. I am getting sore - should head off to bed - 'night all.
