Friday night free for all

Not long till Christmas now! Just four more weeks. Amazing.

I've had one hell of a year. It's been a mixture of sleep deprivation, head-down, full-on homeschooling and sports training for both children, illness and complete burn-out. And that just took me to the middle of the year.

Now I have curtains that block out the light and a number of vitamins that I have to keep remembering to take. The kitten waking me up at 4 - 5am every morning is still a problem, though.

Also, I haven't quite figured out what to do with the tom cat that comes around caterwauling at various hours of the night. Quite honestly, if I had a gun, I'd probably go out and shoot him. But as it is, I dream of an internally controlled water sprinkling system that takes no time at all to fire up and soak the bastard. Will probably have to get a dog to take care of that problem, though. I think all his amorous instincts will vanish if confronted by a dog every time he starts up. Though, how he hasn't figured out that our three female cats are spayed and not interested in him in that way is beyond me.

  1. Water pistol with a bit of ammonia in the water.

  2. have no mercy - hide yourself in the garden tonight, have plenty of dough nuts like the TV shows, and attack the thing with a bb gun and kitchen knife.

  3. LOL, Ozy!

Oswald, sounds like an interesting idea. My children have water pistols, but if I used one of theirs, they might mistakenly shoot each other with the ammonia one.

But, I've found 750ml pump bottles work well as water pistols. Only problem is I'm normally half asleep when this cat strikes, and he runs away really fast most of the time... But, I'll load up my pump bottle with water for tonight, just in case. Chances are he won't come tonight - it's looking like rain.

  6. Actually Lucia dont do anything. Honest story - When I was younger I was skimming stones on a lake close to Nelson. There was a duck swimming around and I boasted to my brother I would hit the duck. It was miles off and an impossible shot. However, on my first throw the impossible happened and my skimming stone hit the poor duck square in the head. He rolled over and never surfaced. Never felt so bad in all my life. Firstly, I killed a duck and I feel bad eating duck and watching Donald Duck to this day. Secondly, I wasted my most athletic and impressive accuracy stunt in my life on killing a duck. Since that day every throw of mine has been a wonky as a john Key smirk.

  7. What's wrong with it is that the cat is most likely someone's much-loved pet and in any case doesn't deserve to be hurt merely for doing what cats do. (yes, they should have had him desexed, but that's not the cat's fault).
Oswald's solution is humane and effective. :-)
Evening people. Now I'm off to work.

  8. The other one was #5 shot. When I had an aviary full of expensive parrots, that was more of an option!

Currently I'm using a 50 mW green laser- they don't like that at all!

  9. Evening all.

Leave out lots of cat food. Get him so fat, he stays at home sleeping.

  10. KG,

I agree. I like cats. I just have murderous thoughts when I get repeatedly woken up in the middle of the night, which tends to stuff up my day. And make me more prone to illness than normal.

Just like last Sunday morning, some moronic neighbours decided that 5am was a great time to let off fireworks. For half an hour. Wouldn't have been so bad, except I needed to get up early on Sunday mornings and I needed to be awake enough in the afternoon to do a 50 minute drive home without having hubbie take over if I was falling asleep.

I think I'm going to have to take a photo of the cat and ask around as to who he belongs to. If I can't find the owner, and if the ammonia doesn't work, I'll get a cage from the SPCA and catch him. They can explain to the owner that neutering him is the smart thing to do. Long term, I'm getting a dog.

  11. Hi FFM!

I probably couldn't use a catapult anyway, but, attaching a water balloon to one might work.
