Greg Carvell was attacked by two maniacs. The first came at him with a machete and a clear intent to do GBH (grievous bodily harm) and the second tried to take his money and basic freedoms.
Ultimately, he was grudgingly allowed to defend himself against a maniac. It is unfortunate he found it as difficult to defend himself from the state.
The system is still broken.
NotPC - Great News.
TV NZ - Charges dropped against Greg Carvell
TBR - Leave the poor guy alone

As you know Zen but didn't quite point out in your post the State isn't quite ready to let this go yet.
ReplyDeleteI think they will ultimately decide to drop it - if they do decide to get a superior court to over rule the JPs or lay new charges both of which the CPS have said they are considering they outcry will be enormous
Yes, perhaps I've used the wrong tense. Let's hope they see sense and Greg isn't called upon to spend vast amounts of his time and money further defending himself from the State.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Helen Clark is ready to loudly leap to his defence and champion his rights, perhaps suggesting a few people to sue and asking the Minister for Justice to step down if this case goes ahead.
Could perhaps Benson-Pope suggest that prosecuting wouldn't be in the public interest?
Could Speaker Wilson perhaps lead the opening of parliament with a short prayer for Greg and justice?
Could the Maori party perhaps suggest this is a racially motivated attack on the man. Tame Iti could discharge a shotgun in the general direction of the courthouse as a symbolic protest about the right to make symbolic protests?
We can only wait and see.
