A tuck truck driver has been injured after his heavy truck and trailer carrying potatoes rolled on State Highway 1. Inspector Ken Climo said the truck is blocking both lanes but "light vehicles" can get through. There will be delays for the next two hours as heavy salvage equipment, a crane, a chipper and a deep fryer have been called in from Palmerston North. Police have also put in an order for two scoops, and expect to have the spuds wrapped in yesterday's newspaper by lunch time.
An oily surface is expected to be the cause. The driver is to be put on KP for his part in the accident, and Police are apeeling for witnesses.

Eyewitness Gimme Rua described the truck as "mashed".
ReplyDeleteActually, this sounds a bit fishy to me.
ReplyDeleteThink of the poor driver--these comments are tatering on the brink of insensitivity.
ReplyDeleteThe driver is one person I would gladly fritter some good will on.
ReplyDeleteMay he make a speedy recovery and regain that spring roll in his step.
I hate it when spuds block up the system, causing a backlog, so that traffic can barely squeeze past the southern motorway :b
