Time for my annual Daylight Savings rant (although this time it's a week early).
Do I really need to say anything? Is there anyone out there enjoying the extra hour of rain in the afternoon, or the getting up in the morning an hour earlier? We had the lights on last night at 6.30pm and on again this morning when we didn't need them last week at the same time. I do not like it, Sam I Am.
Last week TVNZ interviewed kids and asked them what they were going to do with the extra hour of daylight. Are they going to follow that up this week?
As for energy savings - it doesn't, according to a study in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics; in fact, Daylight Saving uses more energy (download study from this site).

I know some of my fellow posters here like DLS, but I can't really see any point it starting it this early. The weather is bad enough at this time of year that it's pointless and it doesn't save any energy.Extending daylight saving increases rather than decreases energy consumption, according to a US study of Australia which has implications on both sides of the Tasman.
Prolonged daylight saving time (DST) succeeded in cutting electricity use in the evenings, but this was more than offset by increased usage in the mornings, according to the study by California's Berkeley University.
Well, the fugley household had friends and rellies over for a BBQ last night, we sat outside talking and drinking until 8pm
ReplyDeletetell me, what's wrong with that?
Nothing wrong with that picture at all Fugley. That's got to be one of the benefits of daylight saving.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'd prefer to set the clock forward and then leave it there, and just put up with dark mornings in the winter, but it getting dark later.
The only thing I don't like about daylight saving is trying to get the kids to bed in the height of summer when it is still light, still hot and bed is the last thing on their minds.
But the old BBQ and friends picture works for me.
I do like daylight savings. I just haven't gotten used to the change in time yet. I'll be fine in a week or so.
ReplyDeletefugley, OK, don't know where you were but it was raining here. You must have had it in the garage, ey? :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know if DLS would have made that much difference yesterday - it got dark pretty quick with the bad weather (which is forecast for the rest of the week).
The Family Fugley are in Chch, beautiful day, balmy evening, I LOVE DLS.
ReplyDeleteThank you fugley for telling us all about your life . Sorry I didn't catch what Church you went too ?
ReplyDeleteI hope you did not burn the sausages ?
dad, for your information, the fugley family eschews church on a sunny day, god can talk to himself.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, you will sometimes see me at St Lukes in the City, first sunday of the month.
St Lukes is where Tim Barnett does his campaign speech's with the homosexual pastor ?
ReplyDeleteSt Lukes is a disgrace to God and it is little wonder that people are murdered on its grounds all the time .

dad, which priest is homosexual? And would you like me to pass on your slanderous comments?
ReplyDeleteI know both Jim and David AND their respective wives, so I suggest you think very carefully about anything else you may want to say.
As a xtian, you are a perfect example of why I would never want to be one - a total and utter hypocrite. Where is the love?
Far from slanderous comments fugley as you know me , whats love got to do with , tell that to the hookers that litter the grounds of Saint Lukes ?
ReplyDeleteIts a real shame but Tim and Richard think its soooooooo cool !!
