Religious liberty being squeezed in the US

Hattip: WDTPRS

Here we see religious liberty, represented by a Catholic bishop being squeezed by the Omnipotent State, whose every demand must be obeyed, while the media acts like a blind man who sees and hears nothing.

This seems to be mainly because anything to do with sex has to be liberalised, no matter the consequences to society and the freedoms we all take for granted.

The new kind of orthodoxy that pervades our mass media involves a range of attitudes toward religion—from indifference to distrust to disdain, much of them rooted in the politics of sexuality. This is dangerous because pulling down a moral framework is always easier than building one up.
Indeed.

  1. WOW! Paranoid much?

Catholic bishop being squeezed by the Omnipotent State

    Where?

You mean they are being held to account for crimes committed by their employees?

You mean they're being obliged to follow the law, like every other citizen?

You mean they are no longer the sole voice at the table?

You mean that the US constitution protects it against the theocracy the catholic bishops are trying to establish?

This seems to be mainly because anything to do with sex has to be liberalised

Why are you so hung up on sex? Its FUN! Its life affirming. It should be done as often as possible. And if you want to live like a nun, no one will try to stop you, so get the hell out of everyone elses's bedrooms.

Funny, but I don't see the state firebombing churches and murdering worshippers. But I do see xtians firebombing medical centres and murdering doctors.

What was that bit about motes and planks again?

  2. It's not just the media who are blind. The HHS Mandate, LRO, will define what is and isn't a religious organisation and will require those that aren't (which is most Catholic institutions due to the US Government's narrow definition) to provide health plans that include contraception, sterilisation and abortion inducing drugs as part of the package - all of which to Catholics is gravely evil.

  3. A discussion of constitutional freedoms sees a rather extreme rant from LRO, avoiding the actual issue at hand and creating connections that are not there.

He also repeats arguments that have been dealt with before on other posts. Boring.

If people don't want Catholics "in their bedrooms" then stop asking Catholics to pay for what happens there.

  5. Lucia Maria, not one catholic will be forced to use birth control.

not one catholic will be forced to have an abortion.

Not one catholic will be forcibly sterilised.

However, catholic employers will have to follow the law, like everyone else, no special exemptions.

    Who's doing that, Muerk?

Here's a radical thought, how about the catholic church, and other churches, stop taking a free ride and pay tax on their business enterprises and rates on their land and buildings?

Then, and only then, will they be seen to have a right to contribute to debates about law,

And while we're on the subject of apying for what happens in other people's bedrooms, who has picked up the tab for healing the lives of inniocents shattered at the hands of the church?

  7. First, there are no Catholics in anyone's bedroom. The HHS Mandate is about Catholics paying for something that Catholics should not be using, unless they want to be bad Catholics. Governments tend to prefer bad Catholics to good Catholics as the bad ones are far more malleable. The good ones are annoying.

Second, the Catholic Church does not have many business enterprises. One that I can think of is the German Bishop's publishing company. I have no idea if they pay any tax on on that - I would guess they probably do.

    Stick to the point, LRO.

  8. LRO:

In a true democracy everyone gets to be public with their opinion even the Catholics and their bishops.

I personally loathe the American health system. I think it's evil because it punishes sick people who can't maintain their jobs and thus leaves the most needy without full medical care. I don't think employers should have anything to do with their employees medical care. But you can't force employers to buy something directly that they believe is evil.

If the American government wants all and sundry to have contraceptives and sterilizations then maybe they could claw something back from their insane military budget and pay for it that way.

Do you have some *actual* analysis, or are you just going to troll?
