Friday Night Free For All

Fancy some conversation tonight?

What else would you do on the shortest day of the year?

I mean, really?

  1. I see the latest post over at tbr.cc, shows Ian Wishart has got even more info on the cops...

  2. What else would you do on the shortest day of the year?

Aren't you supposed to paint yourself blue, wear stag antlers and bay at the moon or something?

As for me I have just celebrated it by changing a flat tyre in a snow storm in the dark.

    Oh joy

  3. For me, I'm sitting warm as at my desk, building a new web site and laughing like a drain at the stupidity of the current Polish govt and its attitude to Germany.

'WE only want back what you took from us" :-)

  4. was thinking about driving down to timaru but don't feel like freezing my nuts off

  5. Fugley, are you trying to provoke something on what is supposed to be a friendly thread?

  6. I'm hoping I get to stay inside tonight.

Almost had a van blown across to my side of the road tonight- winds are gusting to 130k.

Apparently you should always order your coffee "to go" in California. Even if you drink it on the premises.

    Otherwise they charge you tax.

  8. good evening, people.
Not much wind just up the road here, Oswald.
Keeping warm by arguing about Aborigines over at A Western Heart here. And eating a banana sandwich for dinner.

    ReplyDelete
  9. WE get the wind, you get the bogans.

I think we get the better deal!

  10. eating my first home grown pineapple up here in the bay of islands. Has been hellish cold here today. It got down as low as 10 in the shade.
on a more sombre note... where is murray, has anybody heard what is going on ?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh yeah... good evening everybody.

  12. Beautiful dining room Lucyna and I see that Zentiger has dressed for the occassion.
I bet those table clothes will get very dirty, especially if oswald has got the wind, KG is eating sandwiches, and ScrubOne has coffee to go.
Its cold and wet in Auckland too.
And we had some nasty showers in Waiewera.

  13. Now the rain has arrived and according to the doppler it will get much worse...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I only take coffee to go when in California.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The picture reminds me of Grimsby's in Christchurch (it isn't)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Evening Oslwald.
I went to the Sign of the Takahe restaurant in cashmere and interviewed the chef/owner there and he had lots of medievil stuff but I don't think this is it either. But Lucyna has chosen well.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Never got to the Takahe.

Got pissed in the remains of the Sign of the Bellbird though!

  18. So, what do you think of my codpiece?

    ReplyDelete
  19. It would frost a Kanuck's ass in Otago tonight. Snowed in. Took pity on the dogs and let them inside. Showed their gratitude with flatulence. They look bewildered when you fire them out again.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It looks bigger that the one Paul Holmes almost got his mouth around when interviewed by that naughty radio station.
And it looks like it is in your hands, naughty boy!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Zen you would need to line that one with batts or similar tonight....

    ReplyDelete
  22. Talking of codpieces, I think it's time I dashed to the chippie for a bit of Terakahi.
I may be on line later but don't get too drunk without me.
You mailnanders should try some mulled wine tonight.

  23. The picture is of a Scottish castle dungeon done up to be a dining room. Sets the mood quite nicely, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Is it meant to compliment the Scots cuisine?

    ReplyDelete
  25. No, it's to hide the weather. You can look at a scene like that and it doesn't matter that your roof is about to blow off and that there are drafts you didn't notice until tonight. And the lights keep flickering menacingly. That's why I chose it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. George, it took a while. I get what you were saying now. Scots cuisine bad, therefore eat it in a dungeon? See, I have no idea. All I know about Scots cuisine is haggis, and enough to know to stay away from it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My word Scots cuisine is fantastic. Look up stovies, clootie dumplings, bridies and combine it with a wee dram....enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Just a dig. I have an affinity with the cooking of Nick Nairn.

    Probably genetic

    ReplyDelete
  29. Good idea about the dram. I might go send one down to whar many mair hae gun.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Good on you George. Ahhh the pleasure of a good single malt...priceless

    ReplyDelete
  31. Note to self. Never let rust build up.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Did someone mention glenfiddich?

    ReplyDelete
  33. ahh Zen, Glenfiddich is an inferior beast compared to the peaty delights of Laphroiag

    ReplyDelete
  34. Looks like my duty free shopping list is growing then.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Invest in as many litres of Bowmore 17 yr old Single Malt as you can afford, or rake the cash up for.

    Don't share it.

Under its spell a bleak Otago night becomes tropic and pleasant.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I get three litres. That's a litre of each. And then an impartial testing session, over several nights. I'll blog the results if I don't ruin my liver.

Don't share? Impossible. But if I open the bottles on a night no one visits, well, that's not my fault.
