Well, I really almost couldn't believe this. Helen's motorcade, not content with whizzing through towns at breakneck speed has now taken to parking where they like - in fact, blocking disabled car spaces. And disabled people trying to park in aforementioned spaces told to move on or face arrest.
Marshall Leaf's wife Elizabeth tried to use a disabled space but a young policeman demanded she move on, and threatened to arrest her if she did not get out the way.
And she wasn't the only one -
That caused an 81-year-old Parkinson's patient to struggle 200 metres down a wet street after attending a concert in the Town Hall.
Oh, well done Helen...in election year, too. I've often driven past disabled parking spaces at Sylvia Park and wished I could park there but have had to drive on and find somewhere else.
As usual, one law for some, another law for the rest of us.
I had a quick read of the article, and as usual seems light on facts.
ReplyDeleteThe nub of the issue is "can Helen Clark's car park in a disabled spot" when others cannot?
It's like the question "Can Helen Clark's car speed when others cannot?"
Do police, ambulances fire engines etc also have this exemption?
I am unsure about the correct position to take on this. A PM, for security reasons at the least, deserves a few perks.
The article did mention that it was a "young policeman" that moved on the car. It seems that they didn't stop to think of possible solutions that could accommodate all parties.
The issue of Helen herself being guilty of this is far less clear.
The article said "Ms Leaf says what annoyed her most was Helen Clark's cars were sitting around with no-one in them.
So I wonder if Miss Clark even knew of the incident?
Also, the car spot could just as easily be taken by another disabled person, and Ms Leaf would have the same problem.
Most Town Halls have a drop zone for important guests. A quiet word with the "helpful" staff and surely she could have driven up to the front door drop zone and had her hubby popped in? Pity the policeman didn't approach the issue as a problem to solve, rather than a citizen to order off.
Zen, deserves a few perks, or a few parks? ;)
ReplyDeleteHeh! That's a lot kinder than my initial thought - that she might claim some handicap as an excuse.
ReplyDeleteHer political ideology was the first handicap that leaped to mind. Maybe her position in the polls?
"As usual, one law for some, another law for the rest of us."
ReplyDeleteYou better know it, that's the way they seem to operate, these leftie fascists. Our own glorious leader is burning through his staff like a right maniac, they're sick of working for the fellow. Not surprisingly he campaigned on a platform of worker's rights.
