Police are being accused of "not being human" after they waited 26 minutes before entering the liquor store where armed robbery victim Navtej Singh lay fatally wounded on the floor.
His wife, his business partner and a close friend were all there with him, but officers would still not go in despite 111 staff being assured the robbers had left.
Mr Singh died in Middlemore Hospital early yesterday from injuries suffered when he was shot in the chest with a .22 rifle during the raid on his liquor store in Riverton Drive, Manurewa, on Saturday night.
And they held the ambulance back for 38[?] minutes, not letting them work to save this family man with three young children.
I am beyond making rational comment. The Police better catch the criminals and those in charge of this fiasco need to resign and look for a job where they are not responsible for the protection of lives.
Mr Singh's business partner, Gurwinder Singh, called police and ambulance staff within minutes of the shooting but it was half an hour before paramedics were allowed in.
That delay was precious time which Navtej Singh's grieving family believe hindered the 30-year-old's chance of survival, and they now want answers.
And they are entitled to answers. I feel so sad thinking about this family.

I'm listening to an interview on the radio, where a police spokesperson is digging a bigger and bigger hole.
ReplyDeleteNow that I can hear what the have to say, it seems like there was no reasonable excuse for their actions.
I am disgusted.
It would be very interesting to know if medically, that 38 minutes made the difference between life and death for the man who was shot.
ReplyDeleteThis is a disgrace - where is the common sense? I hope the family pursue this, even if the time frame would not have made a difference to the outcome.
ReplyDeleteThe big mystery is "why did it take 30 minutes to establish the crims had fled and a victim was not getting urgent medical assistance."
ReplyDeleteMany today on talkback have discussed procedures, policies, safety issues and potential hostage situations.
Given all the counter evidence to this, (ie the details quoted by witnesses and in news paper reports for this particular circumstance) I cannot see why it would take 30 minutes to figure out it was "safe" to go in.
I suppose the stupid lost the plot keystone cops were at the donut shop or sipping coffee at the garage just like the Edgeware Rd tragedy where they watched a crazed driver kill two young girls. Yet another blunder from a dangerously dysfunctional inept police force!!
ReplyDeleteThis is what you get from insisting on a nice neutered PC 'unarmed' police force!
ReplyDeleteThat is elsewhere issuing tickets for doing 105 on the motorway...
This is also what you get when a scumbag is able to walk into a place and demand whatever he desires--without the risk of getting blown away by the shop owner or householder.
