I've noticed something very strange. At first I just thought this sort of thing happened on the Friday Night Free For Alls, but it seems that the same principle holds true for other blog posts as well.
As soon as I start commenting on posts, very few people comment.
Why is this?

compared to my partners in crime i somtimes have the same problem
ReplyDeletejust look at No Minister this week.
Well, when I wondered why very few people comment on my posts, some-one said "because there's nothing to argue about - maybe you are right".
ReplyDeleteIn your case, it's either they are afraid they'll be told off :-), or you've summarised the issue so well, it's pointless trying to counter your argument!
[Note: This ignores the well known phenomenon of trolls and lemmings continuing to throw themselves at the post irrespective of the fact that they appear total idiots]
Well, that sounds good. I'm always right so people don't want to argue with me.
ReplyDeleteDoes that help you, FFM?
I often wonder- you post a well-thought out meaningful post and get no comments, whilst a throwaway post gets 20 comments!
ReplyDeleteAgreed Oswald - there's often no telling what people will find comment worthy.
ReplyDeleteThe internet is so unpredictable at times but you all know this.
ReplyDeleteNo...don't let this thread be our all time record. That's it. I'm deleting most of my 15 previous comments on this thread - the witty ones. I'll save those for another thread.
ReplyDeleteI've come to the same conclusion. If what you have presented, and the way you have presented it, is so clear and reasonable that it is beyond dispute, and even beyond spin - and if you are consistently able to expose spinning comments for what they are - then you probably shouldn't expect many comments. Unfortunately we are quicker to criticise than commend.
ReplyDeleteBut I *want* the comments!
ReplyDeleteThere, I said it.
Oh well. I'll just write more posts.
I'm going to have to stop this soon, it's very distracting to real life.
accurate snipers clear the landscape pretty fast.
ReplyDelete"...whilst a throwaway post gets 20 comments!"
ReplyDeleteAnd hits, it's amazing how it turns out sometimes. The way i see it, the less you say the more others will say.
Unless you post something they don't agree with or really pisses them off.
Winning an argument on the internet without the benefit of Godwin's law - Inconceivable !
ReplyDeleteOr is it because we all have a mental picture of you as the scary mother superior from Blues Brothers and do not want to get hyper slapped with a wooden ruler.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough I have a similar mental picture of FFM in a frock!
All Mother Superiors have their softer sides, I'm sure... :P
ReplyDeleteFFM in a frock is not something I'd think of. Are you on something other than heart pills right now?
