Move to remove govt funding from late abortions in Australia [UPDATE]

I wonder what Guy Barnett's attempt to remove state funding from late-term abortions will result in? He's not trying to ban late term abortion, just remove state funding for them. Somehow, I don't think he will succeed, but good on him for trying.

UPDATE: Meanwhile, in NZ Garth George calls our politicians "gutless". Bernard Moran, of Voice for Life says that politicians could avoid dealing with the fallout from the recent court ruling that has called into question most of the abortions in NZ, by commissioning a study to double check if women are in fact more likely to suffer mental health problems if they abort their child as found in a 2006 study.

  1. Another interesting angle to investigate is the example from Holland - liberal laws with abortion on demand, but much, much smaller incidence of abortion as the pro-life people have been allowed to assist in the setup of counselling and programmes to support pregnant women.

It seems that the monopoly the very anti-life Family Planning organisation has here is not repeated in Holland, and the result is much better.

The folks sticking to "right to choose" mantra also need to face up to the fact the abortion numbers are appalling here in NZ (and significantly higher than 10 years ago) and yet child abuse is also far too high.

Has the left wing socialist experiment failed? Depends really if this current situation was exactly what they were looking for.

  2. Garth George has hit the nail on the head. Our politicians are gutless - they don't make a move until the spin doctors and statistical demographers tell them what to say. And unfortunately, the truth tends to be unpopular.

  3. Yes ZenTiger, the socialist experiment has failed again and again and again but you'll never find one of them admitting to that. They don't like a society that's healthy and sparkling.
Lucyna, it's great to hear that someone here is doing something right. A lot of opposite laws have been being passed very very quietly since KRudd got into power.

maybe this expalins why Barnett has been a senator since 2002, but only raises this issue now when his party no longer forms the goverment. Ahh, the beauties of opposition.
