COVID-1984

I took the double jab, but requiring a passport to work, to eat, to live, that is not choice. This is a Sophie's choice. It has gone too far. Note carefully - it is 100% compliance, not 90% that has been requested.  90% is when they hope to have the vaccine passport checking system ready. Only 100% of people with passports can participate in society. It wont even matter if you take a test and come up clean, you MUST have the jabs and MUST have a passport. Kudos to AtomAntBoy for this excellent summation, if the YouTube clip is not banned. I took the double jab, but requiring a passport to work, to eat, to live, that is not choice.

Spiked Author: Yes Abortion Kills A Baby But Is Trumped By A Woman's Choice

I am more-often-than-not in agreement with what SP!KED author Brendan O'Neill writes, especially in regard to free speech and gay marriage. I am afraid I have to disagree with his column this week (based on a debate that eventually never happened), in which he says he agrees with the fact that abortion destroys an unborn life, or potential life, but that a woman's freedom of choice trumps that. He writes - Some pro-life campaigners say, `Ah, but this "act of autonomy" is different to all others because it harms and ultimately destroys another human life - that of the fetus'. I don't deny this. I do think there are massive questions to be asked regarding when a fetus becomes fully human, but I don't deny that a fetus is at least a potential human life and that abortion ends that potential human life. But I have made a moral judgement, and I've decided that it is worse - infinitely worse - to force a living, breathing, autonomous individual to do so...

Grace Carroll and her Submission on Marriage and that Virtue word

Last year, eighteen year old Grace Carroll presented her oral submission to a parliamentary select committee made up of people who seem to be in the main, for the redefinition of marriage and hostile to those that oppose it.   Last Sunday, after a Press Release by Bob McCoskrie on Grace's treatment by the committee,  the Sunday Star Times published an article on the hostility Grace experienced and the reaction of the committee to having their behaviour critisised. A teenager opposed to gay marriage has accused select committee members of behaving in a hostile and "menacing" way to submitters who are against a proposed law change for same-sex couples. Leader of conservative lobby group Family First Bob McCoskrie says the girl was treated apallingly [sic] by MPs when she told them during her oral submission that to allow homosexuals to marry would undermine the sanctity of marriage, with one calling her "homophobic" and another getting up for refreshments i...

Religious freedom in the world is decreasing

Pew Forum just released the results on their worldwide survey on religious freedom and it's not looking good. In just three short years since the last survey, restrictions on religious freedom have increased, the worst offender being that country that apparently heralded the "Arab Spring" - Egypt. It must be noted that the countries with the worst indicators include those with the largest Muslim populations: Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, Iran, Bangladesh . . . Funny that, but Western countries such as Britain and France are represented as well. In summary, one out of four of the countries that in 2006 were already showing severe restrictions on religious freedom have further worsened their standards in the following years. But if one looks not at the individual countries, but at the number of inhabitants, the results of the survey are even more stunning: fully 59 percent of the world's population today lives with "high" or "very high" levels ...

Pitchforks and Big Ideas

I'm assuming that I missed the widespread publication and analysis of the court transcripts* and other material that detailed unequivocally the guilt of Macsyna King to the point she is deserving of any subsequent lynching by the NZ public. But then again, the column by Michael Laws in today's Sunday Star Times (SST) hints at what I expect might be the real reason Wishart and King are drawing so much venom from those that normally disparage others for any poison dripping from fangs or nibs. Laws pointed out that Macsyna King has become the face of the "underclass" that routinely beat, mistreat and maltreat their off-spring. To Laws, King has become the embodiment of the concept that the predominantly Maori, welfare dependent, drug abusing social group need to be hated, scorned and abused for visiting the sins of their parents on their children. Nothing but a good violent lynching can break the cycle of violence, Laws explains as he justifies placing the sins...

Geert Wilders Verdict - Not Guilty!

Image by Bosch Fawstin A great day for freedom today (and freedom of speech). Dutch politician Geert Wilders has been cleared of all charges against him. In case you've been living in a cave, Wilders is the leader of the third largest political party (I believe) in the Netherlands. He has been very critical of Islam and the Islamization of Europe, even to the point of making a short film 'Fitna' that describes what the Koran actually says (quoting exact passages) and quotes by prominent Muslim extremists. He was brought up on charges of hate speech and could have been jailed if found guilty. “I am delighted with this ruling,” Wilders said. “It is a victory, not only for me but for all the Dutch people. Today is a victory for freedom of speech. The Dutch are still allowed to speak critically about islam, and resistance against islamisation is not a crime. I have spoken, I speak and I shall continue to speak.” The charges against Geert Wilders were that he had made state...

Smoking!

At least two robberies reported of cigarettes since the tobacco tax rise a few days ago. It's dangerous to work a convenience store. It might explain why John Key prefers a visit to Afghanistan than a walk down to the shop for a loaf of bread and a mugging.

When is it time to stop drinking?

OK, so I don't smoke but I'm against the latest set of tobacco price rises. That's a little bit liberal. But I'd quite happily agree to make it illegal for those under 18 to smoke. I thought it was, but it isn't. But what about drinking? The idea of closing down for business at 2am or 4am would hit the vampire community where it hurts, but as voting is always held during daylight hours, I doubt National would suffer a back lash from the blood sucking lobby. Vampires, that is, not the pro-tax groups, they would undoubtedly love to suck the blood out of us via a tap on the wallet.

Traders and Warriors

NotPC presents two choices for us to consider: The evil warrior class and the peace creating trader class. Warriors bad, Traders good. Then he acknowledges that warriors are revered (for all the wrong reasons) and traders ignored (until there's a good sale on). That has an element of injustice to it, when we should be thanking traders for exchanging goods for money. I agree with half his argument. Trade is good for peace. A trading culture does bring massive benefits, but setting up a battle between good trader and evil warrior is a losing proposition to me. Here's why:

Internet Freedom and Copyright Issues

Here's an online petition that only has a couple of hours to run, so consider reading and signing. What's it about? ACTA is a controversial international treaty that impacts digital rights and is being negotiated in secret meetings. PublicACTA has been organised by InternetNZ so that the public can critique the known and likely content of ACTA proposals ahead of the next round in Wellington. Let's not continue the alarming trend of government signing on to international treaties that we don't get to voice an opinion over. Find out more: The Wellington Declaration

France to Ban the Burqa

[A post on evolution] In 2004 France banned the public display of large crucifixes, and got rid of the Sikh turbans and Jewish skull caps. That legislation also banned Muslim girls from wearing headscarves in state schools. Now they are looking to ban the burqa (actually, just the veil or niqab ). This could do wonders for the photography industry, as more and more Muslim women consider their holiday snaps.

We are giving up our freedom

It seems to me western society is dying. Like all major civilizations shortly before their collapse, life is generally good for the middle class and great for the ruling class. Taxes are high, but affordable. Whilst there is surplus, the incentive to revolt is low and the 'barbarians at the gates' can be contained. However, it is not the barbarian that is our real danger. Ultimately, they might be the ones that put us to the sword, but we will put the sword in their hands. That is the way of all fallen civilizations.

Chinese Walls

China wants to meter all internet traffic that passes through its borders, it has emerged. The move would require international agreement - but it is being discussed by the United Nations body in charge of internet standards. The United Nations seem to be in charge of a lot of things. In principle, they like the idea of monitoring traffic flows and charging for it. Mr Servida, deputy head of unit at the European Commission's Information Society and Media Directorate General, has another opinion. He simply says: "Fencing the internet is not going to help anybody" Related Link: Chinese Walls And have a read of what Liberty Scott has noticed: Australia's draconian approach to the Internet

Friday Night Free for All

Helen Clark's job is to hand out other people's money to third world nations. We must be getting close enough to qualify. We are doing so well on the criteria. Child poverty report slams New Zealand. Check. Child abuse stats amongst the worst in the western world. Check. Government ignoring a referendum result of 87.6%. Check. Opposition acting like they are in government. Check. Loony taxation ideas in circulation, like GST on interest payments. Check. Even loonier ideas like 100% tax rate on high incomes given newspaper column. Check. Government idea of tracking every child finally coming to fruition. Check. And that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure I've missed another dozen examples from this weeks news. That's the thing, the stories are coming thick and fast, so much so it's like we don't have time to absorb their import, before the next wave comes. It might be time to take stock, but even " keeping stock " has all but di...

Power, authority and trust

The Communist is a Socialist in a violent hurry. --G.W. Gough Don't mistake our slow moving politicians for anything but patient communists :-) The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property. --Karl Marx Notice how, in defining all parents that might smack their child as criminals, the call goes out that children "aren't the property of parents". Don't they really mean that the state will have more control over our lives when we accept their definition of a family as a mere property transaction? Don't argue on their level. Communism is the exploitation of the strong by the weak. In communism, inequality springs from placing mediocrity on a level with excellence. --Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (anarchist, socialist, Frenchman) Whilst some might argue that turnabout is fair play, the result is that the strong are not just exploited, they are destroyed by the weak. Consider the glue of society - trust - is brought ...

Boy Racers

Mr and Mrs Smith returned home after a weekend away to find their house crushed. Previously, a charming three bedroom and study bungalow with carport, it has become a 3 metre by 4 metre compressed block. "Frankly, we are stunned" said Andrew Smith. We had no idea our teenage son had organised a party in our absence. Apparently things got out of hand, the police were called and made the decision to crush the house. The thing is, without a house, we can't even ground him." Neighbours were quick to confirm the party was totally out of control. Old Mrs Beezle from number 66 talked of how wild parties had been going on for years, with nothing being done about it. "For the last 15 years or so, always, around the end of January two balloons were hung out on the letter box, and you just knew it was going to be a noisy night." "And you can't believe the parents didn't know what their kids were up to, they used to organise these parties. It wa...

EU sees bloggers as a threat

BRUSSELS, September 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The European Union has issued a document recommending that some means be found to regulate and identify bloggers... ... "They don't seem to like blogs or even understand the concept of blogging, do they?" Dale wrote about EU bureaucrats. "We all know that 'voluntary' soon becomes 'compulsory'. My label is the title of my blog. That is quite sufficient, and I don't need some faceless Eurocrat to tell me otherwise." Daniel Hannan, a blogger and writer for the Daily Telegraph, warned that the EU has been trying to get regulatory control over bloggers for some time. "Eurocrats instinctively dislike spontaneous activity. To them, 'unregulated' is almost synonymous with 'illegal'. The bureaucratic mindset demands uniformity, licensing, order." "Eurocrats are especially upset," he continued, "because many bloggers, being of an anarchic disposition, are anti-Bru...

Happy Birthday Magna Carta

Fugley said ".. do you want to drag us back to the dark ages ". Well, UK Conservative MP David Davis does, in so far as we approach the birthday of the Magna Carta (First signed at Runnymede June 15, then formalized July 15, 1215) he warns us we might lose it. It's good to be reminded sometimes that just because history marches forwards, doesn't mean we are. This Sunday is the anniversary of Magna Carta, a document that guarantees the fundamental element of British freedom, habeas corpus. The right not to be imprisoned by the state without charge or reason. But yesterday this house allowed the state to lock up potentially innocent citizens for up to six weeks without charge. I will fight it, I will argue this by-election against the slow strangulation of fundamental British freedoms by this Government. Now, that may mean I’ve made my last speech to the House, possibly, and of course that would be a cause of deep regret to me but at least my electorate and the nation...

Mayweather prevails

Paul Flynn, the veteran Labour MP, tried and failed to get boxing banned with private member's bills in 1998 and 2005. As a former boxer himself, Mr Flynn acknowledged that boxing has a glorious past but argued it had become an ignoble art and a "degrading spectacle of gratuitous violence that exploits the least advantaged people". They both had impressive records, but Mayweather had the reach over Hatton, and perhaps the psychological edge. Awesome stuff. So obviously, some-one, somewhere wants this carry-on banned. Mayweather has won this fight, but the real battle over personal freedom is by no means over . Are we going to fight for it? Careful that even as the government punishes people for fighting for their lives ; working to ban fighting ; that they are also keen to curb free speech. When we can no longer use words to fight for our rights, you can bet the alternative will not follow the Queens Rules. Meanwhile, back to the match: Mayweather remained unbeaten ...
