Elections and the Media

In the inevitable post election analysis, seems to me the mainly left leaning media are the ones most shocked at the result. For some strange reason, the hundreds of hours spent on Hager's Dirty Politics and Kim Dot Com's spying revelations and various other side issues, National still came in on top. The question the media could consider in their election analysis was did National win in spite of the media frenzy, or because of the media frenzy? If the latter, then they need to consider how to become something more than print bloggers.

Hitting back at the MSM slanderous opinion pieces

Reading from the playbook I am writing in response to the slanderous hit-piece you published on Cory Bernardi on 10 January 2014 (False Conservatives Mask Right-Wing Misfits”. As a member of the fourth estate I accept that you can have no conception, no understanding of Conservatism. I further understand you write for Fairfax and it’s your job to shill for the ALP and Greens. Normally, I would give the diatribes written by you and your ilk the attention they deserve (so do most people, it seems, given how Fairfax’s circulation seems to be falling at a pace commensurate with its leftist bias), but in this case I feel your lies, half-truths and misrepresentations require answer. Yep, rather than report the news objectively, the newspaper is merely a vehicle for opinions.  Far too often, these are ill-informed and biased opinions. Clear encroachment on the domain of the blog. Equally, the blog is seen increasingly as a useful counter-point to some of the drivel we are feed f...

Colin Craig on the Moon

Luna 2, the first man made object to land on the Moon, sent by the Soviet Union. If what's been spread on the airwaves is to be believed, Colin Craig doesn't believe men landed on the moon. Amazing how what someone says can be spread like Chinese Whispers where it almost takes on a life of it's own. Yet the story, as reported in The Herald is this: Mr Craig's initial comments were made during an interview with RadioLive host Marcus Lush. Mr Craig said he had "no idea'' whether astronauts had landed on the moon, and hadn't had the chance to look into chemtrails - a conspiracy theory that suggests the trails left by aircraft come from the deliberate spreading of chemicals. Asked about the moon landing conspiracy - which suggests the Apollo landings were faked by the US government - Mr Craig replied: "I don't have a belief or a non-belief in these things, I jut don't know." Asked again, Mr Craig said he had "no idea...

Islam and the Fear Of Offending

Two news stories drew my attention today and especially after the attack by two Muslims on a solider in the streets of London the other day in the UK. The first , an attack by machete-wielding Muslims on two men in a barbershop which left the men seriously injured, and the second , a story about a student newspaper at an Australian university having to apologize and withdraw a satiric article about Islam after having previously made fun of other religions or beliefs in other issues with no consequence whatsoever. MACHETE wielding thugs have left two men with ‘serious injuries’ after attacking them in an Accrington barber’s shop. The two victims had been inside the shop in Ormerod Street when four masked men carrying machetes and knives forced their way inside. Detectives investigating the incident said the gang attacked the pair before forcing them into the street. Police said they were looking for a gang of Asian men in connection with the attack. You see, in British '...

U.S Lobby Group Wants Gay TV Marriage

Fictional gay TV couple that ACLU is lobbying  to get "married"  This is getting ridiculous now. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a lobby group whose stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States." (Thanks WIKI ). And what do they want today? They are pushing for a gay fictional couple from the TV series Modern Family  to get married because they think it will bring more acceptance of gay marriage. So they've started an online petition in the hopes that they can pressure the writers of the show to make it happen. In their own words - "For many, Mitch and Cam are the gay couple with whom they interact with the most," the ACLU noted. "Inviting 13 million people to Mitch and Cam’s wedding will only bring more people into the push for marriage equality." They and other homosexual advocacy groups bem...

Kidnapped priest clears Pope Francis of accusations of participation

The story that Pope Francis was somehow responsible for two Jesuit priests being captured and tortured by the Argentinian dictatorship just will not die.  Today, a person called Yoza who posted a comment in KiwiBlog accusing the pope of just that, and a few other things.  When challenged, he seemed to be aware of a statement one of the surviving priests had made recently in the media, but not aware of the following story, whereby the priest made further clarifying statements clearing the pope, as what he had previously said had been misinterpreted by the media: CNA STAFF, Mar 21, 2013 / 04:08 pm (CNA).- Clarifying previous comments, a priest who was kidnapped during Argentina’s dictatorship in the 1970s is emphasizing that Pope Francis was not responsible for his detainment . In a statement published on the official website of the Jesuit order in Germany, Father Francisco Jalics said that while he once believed his 1976 kidnapping was due to a denunciation by then-Fat...

Gay Marriage - A Push From The Top Down

Brendan O'Neill from spiked magazine has written a wonderful column explaining the big push for gay marriage right now. He writes that the push isn't coming from the public (be they straight or gay), as was the case in black civil rights and women's suffrage; no, it's a 'top down' push by the cultural and social elites. I will just post a couple of quotes here, but go and read the whole thing . The reason the gay-marriage issue can feel like it came from nowhere, and is now everywhere, is because it is an entirely top-down, elite-driven thing. The true driving force behind it is not any real or publicly manifested hunger amongst homosexual couples to get wed, far less a broader public appetite for the reform of the institution of marriage; rather it is the need of the political and media class for an issue through which to signify its values and advertise its superiority. Gay marriage is not a real issue – it is a cultural signifier, like wearing a pink ri...

Santorum not banning contraception

I opened the world section of the Dom Post and there was a whole article dedicated to bagging Rick Santorum. It started with his supposed wish to ban contraception. Everything he says is twisted and misconstrued, because the progressives and liberals in the media do not like any challenge to their ideas. Multi-culturalism and diversty for them actually relies on everyone adopting their values whilst wearing their ethnic clothes and cooking their ethnic meals. The article went on to make several other sweeping statements, taking the negative angle and reporting nothing about him that would weaken their argument. One sided media sensationlism, and the Dom Post just copies and regurgitates. Here's a link (don't know how long it will be up) where he explicitly states that contracpetion would not be outlawed, that it is a personal issue, and personally, he thinks easy access to contraception leads to more abortions, more single parent families and more STDs. Well, it probably do...

Sarah Palin is "Evil"? [Update]

[Update] The last sentence seems to have been removed from below the image now. Thanks to whoever listened to my complaint. That's right; according to whoever writes the copy over at Yahoo! New Zealand, Sarah Palin is "evil". The screenshot is from an article that appeared today that shows photos of movie stars who resemble each other. In the comment under Sarah Palin (and Tina Fey, who resembles Palin and plays her on Saturday Night Live), it says - Poor Tina - there's something painful about resembling someone so evil Since when has Sarah Palin been "evil"? Perhaps the liberal writer is referring to the stitch-up by the Leftist media in the US who tried to blame the shooting of politician Gabrielle Giffords on Palin, because, well.. they could. They made a story up out of whole cloth based on the flimsiest of reasons, and they still do to this day. They can't stand Palin because they're afraid of her. I'd like someone to point out any...

Palin Derangement Syndrome

Blogger Scott Hong has catalogued over 400 instances of overt media bias against Sarah Palin. It doesn't surprise me. Even so, it's way behind the 8-ball. It was written in 2008. Update: Nope, my sights were off as Scott Hong has been updating that post, so it's over 400 and growing... Palin Derangement Syndrome .

This really is the Pitts

The bias continues with the latest rant from William Rivers Pitt , NYT So let me get this straight. Twenty people were gunned down at a supermarket in Arizona on Saturday. Six were killed, including a nine-year-old girl. Fourteen others were wounded, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was the main target of the attack, and who was shot through the head. She is currently lying in a hospital bed with half of her skull removed because brain swelling from her bullet wound could kill her. Twenty people shot. Six killed. Fourteen wounded. And guess what? It appears Sarah Palin is the principal victim of the shooting. No, really. And then his article goes on to make out Sarah is pretending to be the victim, and it should be all about the real victims. So William, I'll help you get it straight. Twenty people shot. Six killed. Fourteen wounded. By a lone gunman with no connection to Sarah Palin And guess what? You and your friends point the finger at the Tea Part...

Another Assassination in America

I find the continual character assassinations of Sarah Palin by the media with obvious left wing biases quite disgusting. On one hand they urge the reader to consider that the rhetoric has got out of hand, and this climate of fear and hate must be restrained. And then they put the boot in. So the latest speculations and conjectures by Catherine Philp, [ story here ] who has a history of writing articles on Palin that stress the negatives and ignore the positives, declares the Arizona shooting the end of Palin's career. "Only the harshest of her opponents truly believes that Mrs Palin can be blamed..." , and that would have to include Catherine Philp then, because she casts her spin-bias over the rest of the article. "Mrs Palin's silence may be more than just a simple lack of words..." she opines, after explaining that Palin has been totally and absolutely silent during this tragic time (apart from issuing her condolences, but that doesn't count app...

What The MSM Won't Tell You About The Trapped Miners

Miners carrying the statue of St Lorenzo, the Patron Saint of miners Just been reading about some of this in an editorial in the NZ Catholic newspaper and doing some googling about it on the net. Was there a spiritual aspect to the rescue of the trapped miners in Chile? It appears there were many. A statue of St Lorenzo, the patron Saint of miners, was carried to the entrance of the mine shaft, and also placed in the presidential palace by President Sebastian Pinera. The miners asked for a crucifix, statues of Mary and other saints to be sent down to them, where they created a shrine. The Pope blessed 33 pairs of Rosary beads that were sent down to the miners. In return, they sent the Pope a flag . Of course, there would have been many prayers offered by those family and friends of the trapped miners, including minor Mario Gomez, who was the last up and their foreman, who fell to his knees in a prayer of thanks as he came up. Some snippets -  The 33 miners trappe...

Another media smear

More outrage in Belgium as Roman Catholic Church in Belgium, Archbishop Léonard, is slammed for comments in a book. From the Sydney Morning Herald's report The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Belgium sparked an uproar on Friday after the release of a new translation of a book in which he says the AIDS epidemic is a "sort of inherent justice" resulting from the "mistreatment of the profound nature of human love". Note well the use of selective quotes to report what the Archbishop actually said. the report continues Coming just weeks after a report that detailed the abuse of hundreds of children by Catholic priests over several decades in Belgium, the comments of Archbishop Andre-Joseph Leonard has plunged the Church into a fresh controversy. Political leaders, media, medical institutions and gay rights campaigners have all lined up to denounce his words. After a non sequitur about the abuse scandal we are lead to a paragraph introducing the Archbisho...

Paul Henry Gone

Yes, this evening Paul Henry fell on his sword and resigned from TVNZ. It is no longer practical in the current environment for me to do the job I was employed to do, and have so enjoyed doing," Mr Henry said tonight. "It is also difficult for TVNZ to get on with the business of being a first class broadcaster as long as I remain." I admit that Paul could go too far sometimes, but at least he had the ability to cut through a lot of left-wing BS and could often give interview subjects a good grilling when they started spouting PC nonsense. He will be missed in that regard, while TVNZ will probably hire a forelock-tugging, "yes ma'am" broadcaster to replace him.

More Left Wing Bias Reporting by TVNZ

Yesterday, a huge rally took place in Washington organized by Fox anchor Glen Beck, called " Restoring Honor ". A crowd of several hundred thousand conservatives gathered in Washington yesterday to pay tribute to the sacrifice of America’s armed forces and to call for a return to America’s founding principles, in a show of strength that significantly exceeded most expectations. NBC News estimated there were around 300,000 attendees, two hundred thousand more than the 100,000 originally expected, while the event’s organisers put the figure at half a million. Whatever the final figure, this is without doubt one of the biggest rallies Washington has seen in the 21st Century. Even the leading standard bearer of the Left in the US media, The New York Times, admitted that “by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.” So how do you think TVNZ reported it? They concentrated on Beck, showing some old sound bites of...

Why the Holy Father not accept the resignations of two Irish Bishops

One of NZC's commenters, LeftRightOut, wants to know why Pope Benedict did not accept the resignations of two bishops "implicated by the Murphy Commission".  He says, "At least these two men attempted to do the [honourable] thing, Benedict will deny them that. Why?" He then quotes an apparently damning BBC article: Pope Benedict XVI has not accepted the resignations of two Irish bishops who resigned at Christmas. Eamonn Walsh and Raymond Field announced their resignations on Christmas Eve 2009. The pair, who were both auxiliary bishops of Dublin, said they hoped their resignations would help bring peace to the victims of sexual abuse. They were bishops during the period covered by the Murphy Commission which examined abuse in the Dublin diocese. ~ BBC However, all is not as it seems. Three things are true. 1) The men did attempt to resign, but not willingly. 2) They were bishops during the period covered by the Murphy Report, but were not criticised...

The Nazi Pedophile Priest Scare

“There are cases of sexual abuse that come to light every day against a large number of members of the Catholic clergy. Unfortunately it’s not a matter of individual cases, but a collective moral crisis that perhaps the cultural history of humanity has never before known with such a frightening and disconcerting dimension. Numerous priests and religious have confessed. There’s no doubt that the thousands of cases which have come to the attention of the justice system represent only a small fraction of the true total, given that many molesters have been covered and hidden by the hierarchy.” Does the above quote come from an editorial from a newspaper in 2010? No, it’s from a speech of May 28, 1937, by Joseph Goebbels (1897-1945), Minister of Propaganda for the Third Reich. It was just after the Pope of the day had released an encyclical condemning the Nazi regime. A very interesting article. According to the article -

Real news roundup on attacks on the Chruch and Pope Benedict

MEDIA FRENZY The Pope and the New York Times - Wall Streeet Journal A few years later, when the CDF assumed authority over all abuse cases, Cardinal Ratzinger implemented changes that allowed for direct administrative action instead of trials that often took years. Roughly 60% of priests accused of sexual abuse were handled this way. The man who is now pope reopened cases that had been closed; did more than anyone to process cases and hold abusers accountable; and became the first pope to meet with victims. Isn't the more reasonable interpretation of all these events that Cardinal Ratzinger's experience with cases like Murphy's helped lead him to promote reforms that gave the church more effective tools for handling priestly abuse? Former NY Mayor Ed Koch Says 'Enough Already' with Anti-Catholicism in Media Many of those in the media who are pounding on the Church and the pope today clearly do it with delight, and some with malice. The reason, I believe, for the con...
