So a pretty bad week then?

Sarah McKinley says that a week earlier a man named Justin Martin dropped by on the day of her husband's funeral, claiming that he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. The 18-year-old Oklahoma City area woman did not let him into her home that day. On New Year's Eve Martin returned with another man, Dustin Stewart, and this time was armed with a 12-inch hunting knife. The two soon began trying to break into McKinley's home. As one of the men was going from door to door outside her home trying to gain entry, McKinley called 911 and grabbed her 12-gauge shotgun. Sarah then spent 21 minutes on the phone talking to the emergency services operator. When one of the men finally managed to kick the door in, the Police still had not arrived. She decided to shoot the intruder, and the other ran off. That would have capped off a pretty tough period, and I can't help think that the man got his just desserts and saved this women from a trial and fear that he might be bac...

Self Defence Still Illegal [Updated]

If I read the news report correctly, self defence, and the protection of your property is still highly illegal in New Zealand. Here were the chain of events: 1. A couple of guys are drinking and being noisy at 1am. 2. They wake the neighbour, who I'll call Terry. 3. Terry looks out of the window to see them tossing beer bottles on to his lawn 4. Terry yells out for them to stop 5. They SMASH THEIR WAY INTO THE HOUSE looking for a fight 6. Terry defends himself against TWO MEN with a Maori War Club, getting in a few good hits and sending them outside. 7. They get their cars and do wheelies on his lawn. 8. Terry fires a warning shot with his .22 and tells them to scram. 9. All parties go to bed. 10. Three and a half hours later an Armed Defenders Squad arrive, arrest Terry and throw him in jail. He's been charged with grievous bodily harm and reckless use of a firearm. 11. The two other guys have not been charged. No littering, no reckless use of car on private property, no bre...

Pigs Might Fly

With the death toll at 7, with another 10 injured, after a car is used as a weapon to attack Queen Beatrix, of The Netherlands, who needs guns? A terrible tragedy, terrible for the senseless loss of innocent life, all for a pathetic plan that seemed as likely as succeeding as trying to kill her by spreading Mexican Swine Flu. Other pathetic plans would have to include Egypt killing all of the country's pigs . Was this to curb the spread of Mexican Swine Flu? Well, looking at the facts, it seems no Mexican pigs had holidayed in the middle east or North Africa for the last 3 years. It was indeed a dodgy call, particularly when all the pigs are owned by the minority Christian communities, struggling to pay the bills in a Muslim pig-fearing country. It's not religious persecution if it's for health reasons. In New Zealand, the Bishops of the Catholic Church have declared no more communion on the tongue, and no sharing of the communion wine. It's not religious persecu...

Friday Night Free for All

Grrrr! That's the official mood on my reaction to considering charges to the man who defended his life from an armed criminal . Recent news that the Police will not be charging him do not diminish the outrage we need to vent at our Police and Politicians to change this attitude. This in the same week that a women recounts how she had to fight for her life against a kidnapper who ordered her into the boot of the car. "I will die if I get in the boot" (trunk for our American and Canadian friends) she thought, and for good reason. So when a cop says "just roll over" without a rider clause that you are entitled to fight for your life we can think of this poor women who had to make a tough call. This in the same week that the Justice Department announce it is too hard to collect fines of those repeat offenders and lowlifes that don't pay them, so they will not bother enforcing the penalty prescribed under the law. What a message to crooks. What a message to...

This guy's a hero - prosecute him

I have a theory. Big Government types want passive populations. Obviously the more passive the population the easier they are to rule over. Which is why we see people hauled before the courts for defending themselves. If we passively submit to petty criminals we will also be passive in the face of petty government. Here is the next chapter in the sorry saga of people whose lives are turned upside down because they have the temerity to not submit passively to criminality but to fight back. A Tokoroa takeaway owner who shot a masked gunman in the leg after wrestling a semi-automatic .22 rifle off him could end up being charged for defending himself. Aotea Chinese Takeaways owner Zhuofeng "Titan" Jiang, 25, grabbed the rifle as the gunman pointed it at Mr Jiang's 19-year-old cousin and demanded money from the till about 9.45pm on Monday. The gunman had already fired a warning shot into the floor. Another shot went off as the men wrestled with the rifle. When Mr Jiang got hol...

Deadly Force in Self Defence

"What we don't want is an Americanisation of our laws that encourages people to arm themselves and take the law into their own hands by shooting first and asking questions afterwards. - Phil Goff, 2004 Fast forward a few years, and however the stats are spun, the stabbings, burglaries with assault, murders and police deaths aren't going down. Peter Cresswell and Russell Brown argue about this , and especially where and how the government can reduce domestic violence. I'll come back to this. Meanwhile, in Indianapolis this week: INDIANAPOLIS - A convicted sex offender (Myers) died Sunday during a struggle with a father who found the naked man in or near his 17-year-old daughter's bedroom, police said. and he'd been in jail for 10 years on previous offences... Police said Meyers was naked except for a mask and latex gloves and had entered the home through a window near the girl's bedroom with rope, condoms and a knife. Well, evil intent seems obvious. ...

Leftism in Self Defence

Successful Self-Defence can get you in nearly as much trouble as being stabbed to death by a homicidal maniac. But, if you understand Leftism, there is a way out of this: Copper: Now then, what seems to be the trouble? Singh: I was getting into my car but this socially disadvantaged man asked for some non-governmental financial assistance, which I was of course prepared to do. Copper: And so you should. Then what happened? Singh: He was so excited with my generosity, he smashed my window to get at my voluntary donation. Copper: Totally understandable. Then what happened? Singh: He also forgot he had a sharp knife in his hand, and proceeded to stab me, presumably accidentally, as he tried to give me a congratulatory embrace for my obvious recognition of the discomfort my middle class, job holding privileges had held this man back from getting a fair slice at life. Copper: Obvious really. Then what happened? Singh: I cried out in pain and surprise, but immediately explained that it was ...

Judge Jailed for 3 Years

An independent review has found Justice Graeme Panckhurst guilty of a disproportionate reaction that was quite simply 'over the top'. He has been sentenced to 3 years jail. It doesn't matter what was going through Justice Panckhurst's mind at the time, it is clear he has made a terrible mistake, and he must therefore pay. Three years jail is letting him off pretty lightly. The police, when considering the case that caused this unreasonable action from Panckhurst, noted that the victim was being sentenced to jail and the aggressor completely let off. Effectively, Justice Panckhurst was guilty of kidnapping and obstructing justice. This will send a strong message to the community. You can't have judges going around handing out disproportionate sentences. He may see his actions as 'simply doing his job' but he really should have considered things more carefully than what appears to have been a 'heat of the moment' sentencing decision. A young chef...

More police needed

The government is poised to announce a target of 30,000 additional police as a key pledge on the next election. With an increasing number of burglars, thugs and murderers being chased and caught by concerned citizens, fears for the criminal underclass have caused NZ Labour and the Greens to come out strongly in favour of more police: Some poor criminal is eventually going to get hurt by some-one who claims to be 'protecting' themselves. More police on the streets will send a strong message to the community that vigilante justice will not be tolerated. In the past, criminals could act with impunity knowing police would be at least 45 minutes away from responding. Now, we are finding that we need to lift our game - or a criminal could get hurt. Time to change the message

No wonder the police are losing mana in the eyes of the public. Well, this member of the public. Instead of investigating if charges will be laid for a farmer defending his property and peacefully arresting the two crims, they could have said "We are investigating the possibility of awarding a medal." The first message, the message the police are sending, sends a signal - don't even consider defending yourself, or your property, or trying to stop a crime. The second message, the one we rarely hear, is a message to our fine citizens that society will back the actions of the brave and of the good. That's not the message we are hearing. It's time we changed the message. The police are investigating an incident in Waikato in which they say a shotgun was fired while a farmer was capturing two intruders. They say the man and his wife confronted two men who were taking petrol from the rural Morrinsville property in the early hours of Monday morning. The farmer rep...

Attacked by two maniacs

Greg Carvell was attacked by two maniacs. The first came at him with a machete and a clear intent to do GBH (grievous bodily harm) and the second tried to take his money and basic freedoms. Ultimately, he was grudgingly allowed to defend himself against a maniac. It is unfortunate he found it as difficult to defend himself from the state. The system is still broken. NotPC - Great News .
