David Farrar has just noticed that the Repeal of S59 (the anti-smacking bill), really is an anti-smacking bill.
The purpose of this Act is ... abolishing the use of parental force for the purpose of correction.I'm really not surprised that that is so. When Sue Bradford's bill first came into the public arena back in 2005, I heard her being interviewed on National Radio on the bill. She explicitly said then, that she'd like to make smacking illegal, but that didn't think that now was the time for it. Looks like she's changed her mind a couple of years later.
