Chat time again!
Yet again the old foo-bar of conservatives not being a particular way to suit those of a more anarchistic lilt (maybe they want us stuffed and mounted?) has come up on a blog post linking to ZenTiger's railing against having to define art.
What do we all think? Are conservatives only "opposed" rather than "for" anything? Or is this just the cry of the lemming as it jumps off the cliff, saying why? why am I doing this? And why do they want to stop me?
Or, on a lighter note, we could discuss why samurai sword man is going to get a new trial.

Evening.
ReplyDeleteI've stopped reading PC some weeks ago. His constant nonsensical tirades against Christians made me wonder why I bothered.
I haven't missed him at all.
Lucyna, I cannot believe the crazed and cunning samurai sword man can get a retrial on a miscarriage of justice when I cannot ? The double standard and out right absurdity of the bizarre situation clearly shows the utter hypocrisy of a clearly dysfunctional judicial system .
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree. He's got something up on Muslims vs Christians. Whatever it is, I can't be bothered having a look. However, his vile attacks on Mother Teresa needed to be answered.
ReplyDeleteWhich has got me thinking. Evil hates the good, and hates especially the humble, sacrifical good because it cannot fathom it and it cannot turn it.
Hi D4J! It's incredible, isn't it? I'd love to know the details of why his conviction was overturned and why the lawyer thinks a new trial will do anything different. The guy's a waste of space.
ReplyDeleted4j, grow the fuck up!
ReplyDeleteA retrial is not hypocrisy, its the way the system works.
I doubt the justice systemn has any time for you if your court appearances are like your totally incoherent ramblings on the blogs.
The only person I have ever heard of with a sicker mind than yours was the bloke who wrote Revelation - I am still trying to find out what drugs HE was on; maybe you know.
Fugley , I can assure you that the bloke who wrote Revelations was not a hideous wasted space like Burton who shot a man in the back 10 times . Maybe you condone that ?? Don't answer , as your twisted mind is beyond repair . Good evening everybody else .
ReplyDeleteSorry I meant the Court of Appeal today quashed the convictions of samurai swordsman Antonie Ronnie Dixon, ordering a retrial. So many homicides, Burton , Kahui it is hard to keep up with . Wonder if he gets bail whale like the savage evil beast that ruthlessly killed two baby boys !!
ReplyDeleteFugley, there is a certain level of conduct expected in these Friday Night Free For Alls. First off, everyone is friends here. Continue your feuds on other threads. Failure to comply with this will result in any future comments on this thread being deleted. Other than that, you are most welcome to participate.
ReplyDeleteEvening all.
ReplyDeleteJust today I removed Not PC from my bookmarks--I'm tired of his childish anti-Christian rants and digs and even though I'm not religous, it gets offensive after a while.
Added to his diatribe about "xenophobes" in a thread discussing the hunger-striker, it just became too much.
Pity--he used to be better than that.
Happy Friday night.
ReplyDelete'tis amazing the electrons expended and bandwidth consumed denying the validity of Christianity - it does make you wonder why.
Helps pass the time until you die I suppose. It does seem a kind of empty existence though.
It is not for nothing the Devil is known as the prince of liars and the great deceiver.
As for conservatives only being opposed to things and never "for"--what an idiotic charge.
ReplyDeleteWe're for liberty, family values, a law-abiding society, personal responsibility..the list is a long one.
What else do we need to be in favour of?
Hi Andrei!
ReplyDeleteKG, I think we are supposed to be for moulding society in some way as to create change. That would make us interesting to those that love change or long for something better that they can't quite grasp.
It's been a very long 12 day shift!
ReplyDeleteThe children have been locked down and it's time for a couple of black velvets.
The only reason I can find for a second trial is that the death penalty has been allowed retrospectivly for P-addled oxygen-thieves!
(Can I also include publishers with misleading terms with them?)
I think we are supposed to be for moulding society in some way as to create change.
ReplyDeleteOh - I'm all for change.
One change I'd like to see is no more little girls hung from clotheslines.
But somehow I don't think more big government and new laws will bring about that change.
It requires something else entirely.
That whole "conservatives are always opposed to everything" is such a silly statement I don't even know why we should talk about it...
ReplyDelete...sigh...If Conservatives are "opposed" to something, then there is a reasonable chance they will be "for" the opposite. It doesn't always work out that way of course, but I'm sure the point is obvious.
anyway, I'm for an agreeable Friday night...
As I say, conservatives are for that which has been proven to work.
ReplyDeleteSome of us have studied history and seen the wisdom of learning from our mistakes.
That doesn't mean we won't try something new- it just warrants a bit of healthy skeptisism.
Libertarianism and Christian Conservatism share a common basic tenet. As a prime building block of these philosophies is the concept that we should never cause harm to another human being. So conservative christians are "for" one of if not the biggest tenet of libertarian philosophy. For example under both philosophies you have the right to disapprove of same sex marriage but not the right to hurt or physically enforce against those that support it.
ReplyDeleteI'm meeting some resitance from The Manager here to turning my car into a ute.
ReplyDeleteWould flowers help, I wonder?
*resistance* that is
ReplyDeleteVienese chocolate is the best thing ever. Amen. And they do a mean strudel.
ReplyDeleteOne likes going on conferences:-)
Try the chocolate that can be purchased in Greytown-

Even the Swiss get- shall we say-excited- about this chocolate!
ReplyDeleteOkies Oswald. Thanks--we'll see what bribery can achieve.
ReplyDeleteBTW- maybe next week for a shoot?
ReplyDeleteTerrific! I look forward to that. :-)
ReplyDeleteTrevor Loudon has a good item on Conservatives. He's a Libertarian, but he's OK.
ReplyDeletehttp://newzeal.blogspot.com/
Just posted a few environmental tips.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the greens will be taking up any of my suggestions as policy :)
For the record, I'm a paid-up member of the Libertarianz party
ReplyDeletehmmm..what's the Libertarianz postion on immigration, Oswald?
ReplyDeleteKen- Crusader Rabbit's a great site. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Keith.. IIRC, (it's been some time since we corresponded.)
ReplyDeleteCan anyone explain to me what Cresswell's anti-Christian diatribes are all about ?
ReplyDeleteHave you ever noticed ? He bangs on about 'freedom from coercion', 'individual liberty' and other such nebulous horseshit but often spews invective at anyone who doesn't share his own world view. Whose side are libs on anyway, or are they the proverbial fence sitters?
..well beyond me I'm afraid.
Redbaiter! Good to see you. And thanks. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd any time you feel like putting up a post at CR, please feel free.
ReplyDeleteI tell you, Samurai Sword guy doesn't convince me with his 'starey eye' impression; it looks totally contrived.
ReplyDeleteIt seems every second person these days is trying to get off on the old insanity plea.
The libertarian position is :
ReplyDeleteLibertarianz will have no truck with the racist xenophobia against refugees and immigrants touted by other political parties. We will accept any refugee whom anybody wishes to sponsor and run a completely open immigration policy subject only to a requirement that immigrants waive any claim to remaining elements of the welfare state.
I don't agree with that one.
How about "there's no difference between left and right" That's the one that really gets my goat.
ReplyDeleteThanks Oswald. That's clear enough. And mad enough...:-)
ReplyDeleteThe most telling comment I heard about Libertarians is that they celebrate all of the seven deadly sins except sloth
ReplyDeleteGo homeschoolers!
ReplyDelete"Homeschoolers trounce competition but can't win
North Harbour home-schooled basketballers cannot compete in the finals because they are not on a high school roll.
They were allowed to play in the tournament, but they weren't allowed to win it."
