NZ is a cold heartless place

Today's Dominion Post Editorial is yet another nail in the coffin condemning this country as cold, heartless individuals. It seems New Zealanders prefer to do their charity from a distance. As long as our taxes go towards those needy, out there, and as long as they don't expect too much, we don't grumble too much. But, the personal contact, the man full of pain who is willing to starve himself to death in order to get our attention for his plight - that just becomes "moral blackmail".

So NZ has a quota. So what! It's just a number set by someone. Is it going to break the camel's back to let this man who was willing to risk his life and his health, is it really, truly going to cause the world to end to let him stay?

It really makes me wonder what my fellow citizens would do if we were ever confronted with a truly dire situation where we all had to look out for one another. It seems it would be every man for himself and stuff everyone else!

  1. As it happens, I fully agree with the editorial.

As I have posted elsewhere, this man is a liar, a thief and a criminal, we do not need his kind here.

Apart from sharing a religion, what is it that makes you think he is worthy to queue jump?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Fugley, it's not about worthiness. It's not about a queue. It's about doing the right thing.

  3. Here's fun - if he were claiming to be a gay man fleeing Iran would 'the right thing' enjoy a sudden and massive change of direction?

    ReplyDelete
  4. If he wanted to die he would have starved himself of water instead of food and he would have been dead within three days, that would have made a point. Instead he took the 'soft' option knowing our peacenik ministers would fold before he starved himself of food enough to die.

  5. Danyl, strangely enough, a gay man claiming to be fleeing Iran has recently gained asylum here. And he hasn't had to starve himself.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Anon, obviously he didn't want to die. However, 53 days is a mark of intense seriousness that should not be dismissed lightly.

    ReplyDelete
  7. "...a gay man claiming to be fleeing Iran has recently gained asylum here."

Indeed. Was that "doing the right thing?" I think it was, as it would be in the current case under discussion, but I'm interested to hear whether you agree.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Not an easy case, is it?
The man will certainly be in great danger if he's returned to Iran, yet NZ must reserve the right to screen refugees and immigrants in the interests of society as a whole.
    No simple answer.

    ReplyDelete
  9. What about refugees who are prepared to risk their lives by travelling in a leaky boat? They were in a dire situation.

    ReplyDelete
  10. All the crying christs doesn't change one very basic fact - he came to NZ from Korea, not Iran, therefore he was no longer in danger of persecution for being a christian, therefore his claim for refugee status is invalid.

Apart from the lies he has already told.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Fugley, apart from the fact that the NZ Government wants to send him to Iran?

    ReplyDelete
  12. But Lucyna, if he doesn't want to go to Iran, he can go to Korea, can't he? Or just about any other country he chooses. Why would he want to stay where he's not welcome when there are plenty of other countries to go to?

Is it because he has no passport? And why has he no passport?

Throw him out and be damned say I.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The NZ Govt has offered to send him to a "third" country.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mike, the 3rd country was Malaysia. Not a particularly friendly place for non-Muslims, either.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Fugley, whatever country he gets sent to, he will most likely be sent back to Iran eventually. Getting sent back to Iran is what he is trying to avoid.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Then he should have thought about that before he left korea, before he entered NZ illegally, before he destroyed his passport, before he jumped the immigration queue and before he became a burden on the long suffering taxpayers of this country.

How much has this thieving bludger cost our health system since he's been here?

Throw him out and let "god" take care of his own!

    ReplyDelete
  17. ok, I didn't realise that the third country was named by the Govt.

However, he is subject to the law of the country he is living in and perhaps, as a christian, take Paul's words to heart - "For to me, to live is Christ, to die is gain" Phil 1:21

    ReplyDelete
  18. Then he should have thought about that before he left korea, before he entered NZ illegally, before he destroyed his passport, before he jumped the immigration queue and before he became a burden on the long suffering taxpayers of this country.

Do you have a reference for your claims that he entered illegally, destroyed his passport and jumped the queues? I haven't seen such details in the media.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I may be mistaken about the destroyed passport as the NZ Herald article that entioned it is no longer available. But here is another article detailing just some of the deceits of this man.

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/topic/story.cfm?c_id=231&objectid=10461539&pnum=0

Further details on his lies and deceptions can be found on my blog at www.fugley.org

  20. So Fugley, that article confirms a few things:

    1. His medical bills were paid privately - so you can stop asking how much the 'thieving bludger' is costing our health system.

    2. He had been held in prison for 18 months during his hearings. NZ has a shameful way of processing refugee claims. And he's not the only one in this situation.

    3. The NZ government are negotiating with Iran to ship refugees back without paper work. Hardly suggests we will improve our currently borderline ethical behaviour.

    4. The list of inconsistencies in his story are not as severe as you make out. I agree though that they make his story less compelling. Given that its a one sided leak by the Govt. I'll reserve judgment.

    5. He isn't a criminal. Sure you are not getting mixed up with the other person mentioned in detention in the story??

    ReplyDelete
  21. Using a false passport is a criminal act.

Lying in court is a criminal act.

He IS a criminal, and has nothing to offer this country.

Apart from hsi religion, what is it taht endears him to you?

  22. I lived and worked in a totalitarian state once. They had their law. It was weighted heavily with rules, it threw little passing glances at common justice and had none for mercy. As is common it was godless and socialist.

If you wanted judgement without mercy it was a cracker place. It made me appreciate the common justice system that we have inherited from our former imperial masters. There is a thing called benefit of doubt and another called clemency but it sounds like they are of little appeal to you Fugley. You have no need for such yourself it seems. You could go the whole hog and call to have Ali crucified and save the Immans the job. That or take a powder, chill out and think that quite possibly this guy might just fit in and enjoy what measures of freedom this country hasn't eroded yet.

  24. Well George well and truly put that fugley chap back in his place . Well said George . I really do worry about your mental health fugley ? Poor unfortnate chap .

    ReplyDelete
  25. dad, did you notice the difference between George's post and your rantings? George stated his case clearly and without any need for personal abuse, maybe you coukld learn from him.

    ReplyDelete
  26. George, wether or not he might fit in isn't at issue. Nor is whether or not he might enjoy living here.

The issue is his claims have been tested and found to be false, therefore he should go, and the next person waiting aptiently on the immigration list who meets the criteria shall enter.

As for the benefit of the doubt and clemency, how far must one apply them before saying Stop? He had the benefit of the doubt, the doubt was overturned. And why should we show clemency to someone who has already proven himself to be a lair and a criminal?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Fugley got chopped down by George big style! Nice one! Fugley LACKS COMPASSION. After that fact is established, nothing he says is of any consequence.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ragged Glory, should my comapssion extend to, say, Robert Mugabe? Should we allow him to come to NZ, after all I am sure he would enjoy living here once the opposition have kicked him out.

How far do you want to extend compassion? Should every criminal, from anywhere in the world, who wishes to live in NZ be shown compassion and be permitted to live here?

Maybe think things through, before showing off your ignorance.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Fugley, you sound like a man in pain. Is everything OK?

    ReplyDelete
  30. careful lucyna, you're beginning to sound like d4j :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Poor old fugley. Having to reach for nonsensical comparisons, like when the abortionist says "what about rape victims who get pregnant"? to justify the other 99.9% of abortions, the robert mugabe analogy just does not work mate. And accusing me of ignorance smacks of the ad hominem attack.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Fugley , look cut the crap , why are you are so negative on a conservative blog ? I cannot understand your logic ?

    ReplyDelete
