I would guess that a society that has heard just about everything is most likely finding itself intrigued with the idea of chastity.
Articles in The Australian yesterday gave first hand accounts by two women, one who had remained chaste from her youth and another who followed the predominant view of our over-sexualized culture, but later decided to embrace chastity.
[...]"I was always a little fascinating. I was constantly probed about these beliefs, and why I held them. It was as though the chaste way of life was a radical decision, because it was in direct contradiction to the message given to young people.
"It is assumed that we have no control, that we will have sex. It is assumed that we enjoy sexual liberty, that young people and chastity are incompatible."Related Link: Strong Public Message On Chastity Running In Australian Press Leading up to World Youth Day ~ Life Site News
She says her former school friends were not aware that this choice - chastity - was available to them.
In high school we were told, "You will get older and you will become sexually active. That is the way it happens, and when it does, wear a condom. That is the only important thing."
"There was no sense that chastity could protect (us from) the depression, the confusion, that accompanies casual sex, and the breakdown of a relationship, where you have given every part of yourself," she explained
"They didn't offer chastity as a choice, the way they advertise sexual liberty."
Ex adherents of a point of view always the most balanced and level headed of critics.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if some of the oversexualized indiscriminate masses are actually wondering if that's all there is. I pray this spiritual rustling going on at the moment wakes a few people up to another way.
ReplyDeleteWYD has been quite a stunning phenomenon, Lucyna btw.
Are you out of your god-loving minds?
ReplyDeleteRationally happy&healthy sex belongs in your life. Why do you want kids to sexually cripple themselves with commitment to chastity?
That's like coaching someone on emotions per se and saying they don't need to exist. Like saying anger and a sense of humor are optionals.
Hells bells people!
"Rationally happy&healthy sex belongs in your life."
ReplyDeleteSo it does.
Unfortunately, indiscriminate sex brings with it STDs, unwanted pregnancies and young lives blighted.
Chastity is certainly a better option than those.
So is castration (at the risk of putting ideas in Lucyna's head).
ReplyDeleteSmartass one-liners do not a debate make.
ReplyDeleteI can't be bothered.
Rick, being enslaved to the desires of the body is far more crippling. Treating sex as just a leisure activity is also very damaging. Not to mention deadly, if an unwanted child should happen to come along.

ReplyDeleteI was relying on the power of my excellent argument to refute you, not in the number of lines it took to express it.
Rick, being enslaved to the desires of the body is far more crippling.
I agree. But, as I'm trying to explain, there is a hell of a lot more to sexuality than being a slave to one's flesh.
Even for Christians, know it or not!
Sex is not just a "leisure activity" any more than romance and anger and envy and fear. Passions are not optional distractions from life, they are life.
Chastity is analogous to confiscating your own smile.
In a sense, we agree on that Rick--I just think chastity may be preferable to the "anything goes" casual sex culture that does so much damage to people not mature enough to handle it.
ReplyDeleteIf by that you mean abstinence pending informed decision-making then I'm totally there.
ReplyDeleteRick,

Absolutely, totally agree.

Ahhhh, here we start to diverge.
Sex is an act. It can be brought on by feelings of either love or lust. Lust is enslaving, love is freeing. Lust seeks to dominate the other, love seeks to offer oneself to the other. How you get to sex is vitally important.
Chastity is analogous to confiscating your own smile.
No, no, no. Chastity is merely self-control.
Lucyna, Cardinal Wilfred Fox Napier led far-left scumbag George Negus on a merry chase on SBS's Dateline on this very topic. He did brilliantly well while Negus clumsily tried to slug at him, he 'floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee'.
