Trotter's Hate Speech

What to call Trotter's latest campaign effort for Labour? Hate Speech? The Rantings Of A Grumpy Old Man? The Viciousness Of The Left? It's all of those things, and as electioneering goes, fails to have his home address at the end of the "opinion".

It seems the Sunday Star Times don't worry about editors any more, instead they are filled with managers tasked with raising as much hell as possible in order to sell papers and flog absolute tripe. Hate filled tripe at that.

So what did Trotter say?

Don't ever forget who the Nats are

And he goes into describing the 35% of the country, the supporters and voters that make up the backbone of the National vote as collectively the most evil and foul people ever.

Of the farmers and 'cockies': selfish; insular; bio-terrorists destroying our rabbits, waterways, and forests, who also refuse to pay the entirely reasonable tax on cows farting, and had the audacity to protest about it. These same greedy people were the ones to object to town folk having 'right to roam' over their property at will and unannounced, and control the Nations water preventing our children from being able to swim, or even get a glass of it to survive. Terrible.

But they aren't the only monsters that make up National. No, he then wades into the "creators of wealth":

"bastardisers of culture; selfish; arrogant; and possessed of an indefatigable sense of moral superiority over everyone whose income is less than $100,000 per annum."

That was the opening line of 4 paragraphs of venom.

It was a warm up. The last group he ties to "Defenders of the Faith; upholders of decent family values". He calls these people 'bigoted' and 'sadistic'. These are the evil people who mistreat gays, women, ethnic minorities and the disabled, cruelly.

He finishes up:
Yes, these are the people you will be joining when you make the big switch...Of course no one can stop you from joining them.

It's still a free country.

But please, before you vote, ask yourself: "Is this the company I want to keep?"
Well Chris, perhaps these people need to ask themselves, that if they stay with Labour and you, is that the sort of company they want to keep?

Chris, you've abused every farmer, every small business owner, every person on a high salary, every person of faith - a lot of good people, and no doubt I've missed many other good people in that list. Your opinion piece is nothing more than the left's much feared 'hate speech' and is designed to electioneer by the lowest campaigning standard known - fear mongering stereotyping that does not become any main stream media journalist - not even you.

  1. Great post ZT - these died-in-the-wool lefties really take the biscuit eh.

  2. It is all those people who provide the taxes to allow the left to keep handing out election bribes and redistributing wealth. How would they get on if all the people he denigrated decided to leave the country for somewhere where they are appreciated.

  3. In Trotter we see the real mindset of the left revealed--does anyone seriousy doubt that if this collection of academics, union thugs and communists wins the next election, they won't bring down the boot of the state even harder on the throats of Kiwis?

  4. Bollocks! You overstate things much as Trotter does Zen, if not more so. He does not, for example “abuse every small business owner, every person on a high salary.” Nor does he use the words “evil” and “foul”.

So, hate speech or timely wake-up call to those who may be about to subvert their own interests by voting for the very people who are out to screw them? Depends on your perspective, I guess.

PS, That's right digi, workers don't do any, er, work! Brilliant stuff.

  5. Can I have the biscuit that I2 mentions, please? And if I get to choose, make it an Afgan. Yum.

  6. This is like saying Garth George effectively defines the Conservative agenda with his foaming at the mouth. This kind of guilt by association is a bit silly, but I suppose since New Zeal is down someone has to pick up the slack.

  7. "Afgan" pete, silly me I thought jafa-cake would be more to your liking?

  8. Not the place you would normally expect to see a biscuit club!
My sympathy goes out to Trotter. Imagine the soul wrenching anguish he must go through every time he gets paid by rich pricks to write his column.

  9. No way Jafapete.

It's pretty clear Trotter's tirade is at "the 35% of New Zealanders who make up National's core vote"

indeed, that's why I used quote marks for that bit. 35% of New Zealanders, the National core vote.

He's worried 16%, being the swing voters, will join this monolithic voting block and put National in the drivers seat.

So his article is very much "who is this 35% of New Zealands voters? Who are these people called "National"?

From that point on he describes these core voters, as guilty of a long list of sins. I do not overstate his sweeping generalisations one bit. He meant every exaggerated bit of it. He has to, to make those kind of numbers.

"bastardisers of culture; selfish; arrogant; and possessed of an indefatigable sense of moral superiority over everyone whose income is less than $100,000 per annum."

The people who refuse to pay for the pollution they cause. The people who are bending all their powers towards securing control of our Nation's water - even as they make it unfit for our children to drink or swim in. These are the people you will be supporting when you vote National

    and on and on.

Yes, it does depend on ones point of view. And Trotter's point of view is so bigoted and narrow minded he is incapable of seeing the genuine intent in 'the other side' to try something different to improve this great country of ours.

Nope, try as you might, Trotter's opinion piece was simply an obvious descent into a Labour campaign using gutter politics. I don't have to exaggerate anything to make that point.

  10. It's a bit of a worry that the standard of political discourse is geting so low.

It seems that pundits think free speech is being able to say any damn thing they like without censure.

And when they are called on their nonsense they usally respond with just another tirade.
