Friday Night Free for All

Helen Clark's job is to hand out other people's money to third world nations. We must be getting close enough to qualify. We are doing so well on the criteria.

Child poverty report slams New Zealand. Check.
Child abuse stats amongst the worst in the western world. Check.
Government ignoring a referendum result of 87.6%. Check.
Opposition acting like they are in government. Check.
Loony taxation ideas in circulation, like GST on interest payments. Check.
Even loonier ideas like 100% tax rate on high incomes given newspaper column. Check.
Government idea of tracking every child finally coming to fruition. Check.

And that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure I've missed another dozen examples from this weeks news. That's the thing, the stories are coming thick and fast, so much so it's like we don't have time to absorb their import, before the next wave comes. It might be time to take stock, but even "keeping stock" has all but disappeared this week.

So we'll just have to take up the slack. "We" being not specifically NZC, but all our fellow bloggers. So drop in and file your report for the week. Perhaps some historian will one day write a book and point out exactly when it all turned to custard, simply by trawling the blogs. Actually, I think the cement was poured back in the 2005 elections. We had our chance, but blew it. I can't see the 2011 offering any better choices at this time, and unless we can vote in a new crowd with a 95% majority, anything less will be deemed "not a result worth changing anything, especially if it disrupts parliament." I mean, who would vote if they knew it might disrupt parliament?

  1. The rise of the blog couldn't have come at a better time.

The power of information has shifted to the hands of those who possess keyboards and internet connections. Increasingly the power of the blog is growing.

Those of us with growing readerships and with the ability to speak the truth must continue.

  2. Good effort. There may be a myriad of blogs, but when there is unanimity across a majority of blogs, then the voice of the people becomes thunderous.

    As confirmed by referendum.

  4. Not bad, its still got that fresh paint smell which can be a bit annoying til you get used to it.

  5. I just accidentally clicked on Alexa (was trying to click on my blog stats) and see that MandM has a 23.3% US readership! Fruity!

  6. I've noticed an increase in NZ commenters using anonymous proxy server services, many located in the USA.

The result is a higher USA count, even though it is not quite true.

Looks like some people are learning about privacy. Hopefully, not just the trolls.

That's not to say that you are not also getting more US visitors. As your Goggle page rank improves, and the range of material grows, you'll start getting more hits on a variety of topics.

We get a small but steady stream of mainly overseas hits from a couple of posts on Che Guevara, girls playing rugby (and variations thereof), naked news and home schooling.

    Bit of a laugh, really!

  7. Evening you two.. and everyone else.

Madeleine your site looks great. I have been at WP for about 3 week now and am enjoying it. I am just using a template through their blog system and it works well. Although I cant muck about with the HTML like I used to at blogger.

Just look to Obama for classic inspirational speeches. The other day it was something about ' moving up the rung on the ladder of opportunity'.

How are you Zen Tiger. Glad it is fun Friday???

  10. Ozy MandM Wordpress is kindly hosted free by Churchweb so I can and have and will mess with the html - our template is Black and White by Cutline which, as the name suggests, is supposed to be black and white but as you can see it is not...

I wanted something crisp but with a hint of interest and red is my favourite colour so there had to be some red... Your site is looking really good too these days.

Wordpress is really good, once I am passed the adjustment phase I am sure I'll stop whinging about it.
