The school holidays are here!
None too soon, really. I'm completely worn out this term. On reflection, it's most likely because at no point were we interrupted by illness or injury, and therefore were able to work, work, work.
Apologies to everyone that is waiting for an email reply from me - I needed brain space this week as well. Hence the lack of blogging as well.
How has everyone else been? Looking forward to putting the clocks one hour ahead on Saturday night? I'm not, getting to bed early is difficult enough as it is already. And I don't get to sleep in on Sunday mornings.
*Sigh*
[UPDATE] Just read an article on children being able to write text better using a pen rather than a computer. Something to do with the brain working in a different way. Hah! I am not surprised. My mind engages in a different way when I write with a pen. I find I can do quite a lot of thinking that way as well. So the trend to allowing children to use computers as part of normal learning will create even dumber students over the long term. That will most likely suit the politicians, but won't be so good for the children.

Friday! Count me in for the weekend.
ReplyDeleteAre we doing puns tonight?
ReplyDeleteEvening all
ReplyDeleteYes, I am glad the school holidays are here. Fantastic.
Gave my class a treat today by showing them the classic 'Princess Bride' movie. Anyone seen it?? Has to be the best kids movie ever.
Ozy,
ReplyDeleteYes, I love that movie! My kids really like it too. I saw it at the movies when it first came out, back in the days when I knew what was playing.

ReplyDeleteWe have Princess Bride on VHS somewhere, I thought of it for my younger two the other day as my older two really loved it but it has not been watched in years and as our VHS player has cobwebs in it even if I found it I am not sure I could play it to them... might need to invest in the DVD version.
ReplyDeleteSchool holidays mean Matt is on holiday from tech and I have a babysitter for two weeks meaning I can get writing on my monster research project, 10,000 words, due in a month or something awful like that.
Hi Madeleine!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the monster research project - that sounds a bit like my almost completely overgrown garden that I have two weeks to get in order before school starts up again. As long as it doesn't rain during the day, I'll be set.
Started on digging out onion weeds today. I know I am supposed to poison them, but that doesn't seem to work so well. And they take way too long to die. Instant kill, far more satisfying.
Evening all.
ReplyDeleteOnion weed - digging it out does seem to be better than spray.
High today here was 7 degress - whose mad idea was it to start daylight saving this early?
We live on an old, overgrown vineyard - way less cool than it sounds as our house is right on the edge of the land on a main road, facing the local Pak'n'Save but I digress - it is riddled with onion weed and the area is vast. The landlord mows it with a ride-on mower but only after the grass gets knee high and by then the onion weed is in full flower - when they mow it it absolutely reeks.
ReplyDeleteHi guys. Fell asleep early last night (still fully clothed) and slept all the way through until 5am when one of the cats woke me up. Realiable like an alarm clock. Which went off at six am, because it doesn't understand the significance of "Saturday".
ReplyDeleteHi Scrubone. Nice entry.
ReplyDeleteA lady was filling her tank at a gas station, smoking a cigarette, even though all the signs say not to. The fumes that came out of the gas tank ignited, severely burning her hands. But it also lit up her arm, too! Instead of rolling on the ground to put it out, she panicked. She took off running down the street.
A police car was at the intersection where it happened and he tried to stop her to put out her arm, but she just kept running and screaming. All the officer could think of doing was to shoot her. This took everyone by surprise. The officer ran over to her and put the fire out, then called for an ambulance.
When questioned about his course of action to stop her, the officer said, "My only thought was to stop her. After all, she was waving a fire-arm."
Princess Bride.
ReplyDeleteA better movie? Inconceivable!
Princess bride is a great movie. I've read the book as well. Goldman was a genius - he certainly knows how to spin a story. The story at the beginning of the book about how the princess bride was actually part of a really old book that his father used to read him the good bits out of when he was sick, and the tale about tracking it down in a secondhand bookstore and finally getting it published etc is also fiction. Completely untrue. I had to look up the internet though to find out the truth :)
ReplyDeleteps, DOWN with daylight saving! Grrrrr...
ReplyDeleteToo right. I hate it.
ReplyDeleteMe too. We had a fairly benign episode of where's the teenager last night involving us being up until 1.30am only to then finally head to bed and go... crap, daylight savings.
ReplyDeleteIn all fairness to the teenager, the youth group leader responsible for taxiing the kids home made an executive decision, based on majority curfews being 1am to not ferry everyone home til then. Rather peeved at the youth group leader as curfews in our house are generally the saner side of midnight.
