If it keeps on rainin, levees goin to break,
If it keeps on rainin, levees goin to break,
When the levee breaks Ill have no place to stay.
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan,
Lord, mean old levee taught me to weep and moan,
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.
Dont it make you feel bad
When youre tryin to find your way home,
You dont know which way to go?
If youre goin down south
They go no work to do,
If you dont know about chicago.
Cryin wont help you, prayin wont do you no good,
Now, cryin wont help you, prayin wont do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.
All last night sat on the levee and moaned,
All last night sat on the levee and moaned,
Thinkin bout me baby and my happy home.
Going, gon to chicago,
Gon to chicago,
Sorry but I cant take you.
Going down, going down now, going down.

  1. another week, another dollar. More rain and the grass is starting around here... I had better blow the starlings out of the mower.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I've got enough starlings already.

    ReplyDelete
  3. ha ha. The grass started growing up here almost three weeks ago after a non growth period of around six weeks and we have been going gangbusters with the new tractors and ride ons since.

  4. mowing?
Haven't you guys heard of Roundup?
    good evening.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Roundup is great stuff.

I'm told that if you spray in the early morning when the dew is still on the ground it starts browning off later that morning.

    But I wouldn't' know about that :)

  6. Have just been watching Close Up, and I see that the Electioneering is already starting. There was some competition for school kids where they had to write in a question of what they would ask the Pm had they the chance. The winner got to ride with Aunty Helen in a helicopter and ask the question.

It was won by a boy for his question on global warming (big surprise there - not).

Helen, it's been done; John Key taking the young Maori girl up North.

It looks like the PM is trying to emulate all that John is doing now.

Ugh, and I don't think Helen even likes kids....

  7. Talking about Klark and children , just imagine how many teddy bears that have had their heads wrenched of by her in a hissy fit ? Thousands ?

I would hate to be one of her teddy bears , as it would be no picnic because Peter is also about .

  8. uhhhh. Ok. D4J.
Roundup is good for edges, however all men want a tractor and roundup-ing grass removes the singular pleasure that is sitting on the big mower with the ipod on and a cold one in the cup holder avoiding having to talk to anybody for an hour or two.
Music du jour for me in the morning will be Led Zep. I was lucky enough to go to Knebworth in 78 and see then live as a 12 year old with my mum. (possibly the only fond memory I have of her but that is a whole other year of explaining).
Now I find reunion tour/band totally repugnant but I WILL MAKE AN EXCEPTION FOR THE LED ZEP CONCERT IN NOVEMBER.
I have entered for the ticket ballot as has evry person I know on every continent and will make this offer... GOTO
    http://www.ahmettribute.com/
and register for the ballot. If you win the right to buy two tickets, give me one and I will pay the flight to london for you to use the other.
I will go and see bonhams son play with them as achieving this will COMPLETE THE CIRCLE that saw me move here in 88.

  9. scrubone, I'm a great Roundup gardener--if it looks remotely inconvenient...spray it!

  10. Good Evening everyone.

And the daffodils are looking lovely too. They have done so for a couple of weeks.
It's shorts and singlet weather in Waiwera and Orewa for part of the day for some people. But i haven't seen anyone in the sea yet.

I must take a closer look at the new Serious Fraud office. It might be worth posting on.
Maybe the reason the Nats and certain bloggers haven't said much about it, is that the EFB is filling their time and it slipped under the radar. And David F did turn 40 this week, about 9 days after me.

I hope Adolf is keen to dive back into No Minister. I have found it too distracting and I must concentrate on my work more.

  11. Evening, FM.
Done, BB and if I win the right to buy two you can have both for a bottle of Laphroiag. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Out clause... If I win tickets myself offer will not be honoured :)
    Now to business.
The serious fraud office putsch is more serious than the EFB.
It is now a given for me that the sheeple will re-elect Helen. The Cullen Bribe will be of biblical proportions to ensure Helen does not just have to rely on using stolen money to promote herself next year.
The changes to the serious fraud office gives her a new improved version of Hitlers Brown Shirts. She owns the cops and has since Doone was disappeared. Any suggestion of impartiality on the part of the filth is laughable.
    Bloggers beware.

  14. Evening all.

    Happy belated birthday FFM.

Led Zep - a man of excellent taste. May have to put some on later tonight..

    ReplyDelete
  15. It will be a case KG, and I will help you drink the first one. Thankyou.

  16. Song remains the same is my choice this evening.
On the mower I always start with 2 and if I am not rushing finish with 4

    ReplyDelete
  17. Where's Mr. Bastable Esq.? I want to go target shooting on Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well, since Lucyna hasn't found a picture for tonight, I'll sneak in 4.

Some trivia: the Led Zep song "When the Levee Breaks" is "a blues song written and first recorded by husband and wife Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. The song is in reaction to the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927."

  19. ..and I should add the link through to the wiki has further interesting info about the mixing process and the 'cultural context'.

  20. Marvelous effort that (the pic)
Trivia 2 for the night. Led Zeppelin never released a "single" in the UK, but whole lotta love was the theme track for top of the pops (UK singles tv show) for over 30 years.

  21. Shooting is on for Sunday.

I may even bring one of my coal-burners along!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh dear--I'll bring a respirator and goggles!
Very therapeutic, the smell of cordite and the recoil and noise...

  23. Evening again, I was perusing the blogs when i came across a "bonkers" report on Quality of Life by the UK Tories.
It recommends forcing supermarkets to tax for parking, a ban on the 'stand by' facilities on electrical goods, even having streetlights off at night to save power. Absolute bloody stupidity.
I just hope National here don't come up with similar nonsense. I have just posted a warning.
I am just looking up the SFO stuff too. The current outfit stresses its indeopendence on its website.
You could be right BB. I will post something but we need to warn DPF ass well. Maybe National needs waking up on it.

  24. Everyone should watch "Song remains the same", once every year, to put into perspective the insipid rubbish that is put up as music these days in perspective. Also Led Zep IV, as displayed, is undoubtedly the graetest rockn n roll album ever....period.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Indeed!

How much of todays musak will survive the test of time!

And how much of it would sell without the associated fottage of some scantily-clad tarts prancing about...

    ReplyDelete
  26. As (IMOO) the worlds most fanatical Led Zep fan I feel sufficiently worthy to comment on the movie song remains the same. And as such i would recommend watching it with your eyes clamped shut. if you do not trust yourself not to open them during viewing the movie might i suggest scooping out your eyeballs with spoons so as to avoid polluting what is the closest you might ever come to a religious experience via your ears without ruining it by watching the drug fucked lunacy that is the visual experience of watching them have some sort of hippy/ bugsy malone gsngster mindfuck on camera.

  27. oh and FFM, dpf is to busy being 40 to realise how serious the SFO situation is. THIS IS BIGGER THAN THE EFB.

Opinion from THE SUN today. (yeah I know it is the chav bible but read it anyway.
    September 14, 2007

LIKE the endangered polar bear, David Cameron is walking on thin ice.

He won praise by identifying climate change as a key issue for voters after scary weather at home and abroad.

Most still want to save the rainforest, the ice caps and what’s left of wildlife for our children.

But the mood is more cautious now. The economy less rosy.

Food, petrol, mortgages and Chinese imports cost more. House prices are coming down.

We’ve had enough of politicians taking our money in tax and then squandering it on pet projects.

Now Mr Cameron wants to make us pay more to jet off on holiday, while putting a stop to new airport and road building.

Britain contributes a tiny fraction of global pollution. Why should we wear hair shirts when China builds two new coal-fired power stations a week and Russian rivers are so polluted they catch fire?

Why must we take crowded and costly trains when the skies over newly prosperous India are thick with short-haul flights?

Without better airports and roads, business will take its factories — and jobs — elsewhere in Europe.

Mr Cameron should think carefully before he takes this risky step — or disappear without trace at the next election.

    Border lunacy

BRUSSELS wants open borders for millions of Africans and Asians who daily risk their lives to reach the EU.

On arrival, they already qualify for asylum. Now the EU wants full residency rights after five years — a move likely to bring a few million more.

The BBC’s Panorama last week showed how Russian gangsters prey on the world’s poor and oppressed, carrying them like cattle in leaky boats.

Asked where they’re heading, most reply: “Britain.”

And Gordon Brown wonders why we want a referendum on the EU Treaty!
    --------------------------------
Sums it all up fairly succintly don't you think?
Britain is gone. Eurabia lives as KG would no doubt agree.

  29. Thanks for heads up BB on the SFO restructure. Is there no end to the last ditch efforts of the Labour party, or is the bureaucracy so entrenched now, it knows how to grow itself in the quickest and deadliest ways possible?

    ReplyDelete
  30. It is not a last ditch effort Zen, they are following a carefully laid plan hatched in the early 70's with that old fat poof Jonathon Hunt as the team leader.
Clarke and her kin are working to change our country from a modern democracy to a cuban style one party state where they control every aspect of our lives from cradle to grave. The erosion of personal choice and liberty gathers pace by the day, the EFB is a natural reaction to their feeling threatened by a patriarchal group (EB) and being caught stealing. Chris Trotter justifies the stealing of the election as ok to keep the enemy out. Creating a police division to monitor and harass elements that may challenge them is a natural progression for Clarke. We will be New Venezuela within 10 years. I am fortunate to be blessed with the wherewithal to exile myself to Queensland before it gets too bad. What are the rest of you going to do?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Being of cheerful disposition, I rejoice when moves like the EFB and The SFO surface. It means the pendulum is nearing the end of its travel one way and is shortly to accelerate in the opposite direction. All it takes is an issue and a leader. Sadly I doubt the Keys of this play are it, but leadership abhors a vacuum.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Looks like I have the last word until someone wakes uop in the morning.
BB, I think you are right about the SFO. David has been busy with his birthday, but the lad has worked hard over the EFB and deserves a break. Certainly the MSN needs to be alerted and the Gnats too.
I used to love reading the sun. It seems to have found its feet again. it did go a bit blairite New Labour a few years back.
Dave Cameron does seem an absolute tosser with his green iniatiatves.
As for my bolthole. Well, I tired Perth last year and I did not like it there.
Yes, Queensland looks promising. Somewhere not too far from Brisbane but not in the city itself. The Gold Coast has smartened its act but Byron Bay in NSW is delightful. Noosa always pleases.
But with my parents getting old in Yorkshire, I still have ties to britain, so who knows. yet i doubt I could handle britain any more.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, this morning brings some cheerful news--62% expect Labour to lose the next election.
Not that National will repeal any of the laws the current gangsters have put in place, but it'll be good to get rid of the Politburo.
Agreed about Eurabia, BB. Europe is pretty much a lost cause and we need to be very careful not to repeat their mistakes on this side of the world.

  34. I like a lot of Led Zep songs I hear on the radio, but I've never actually gone and bought any on CD. I'm put off by stuff like Jimmy Page living in satanist Aleister Crowley's house and Plant saying that the words to Stairway came to him almost like someone else was writing them for him, etc. (threads like this from the Plant-Zeppelin forum)

I'm not saying the music is satanic or anything like that; some good Catholic friends of mine love Zep and I do like a lot of their songs (like 'That's The Way' from Almost Famous which was on TV last night). It's just that I have never felt comfortable myself in actually buying some - and I have had a CD in my hand wanting to.

I know that might sound stupid but that's just where I'm at as regards Led Zep.

ps, while I was writing this, I came upon a link on youtube for a song called Taurus by a band called Spirit that Page might have used as 'inspiration' for the opening chords of Stairway (Taurus came out first).
    Interesting.
