Friday Night Free for All

It's Friday again. It's been a fairly busy week for me, so blogging is light. There's been much to blog about though and most of it deserves a bit more time. As I was reminded earlier this week, it's very easy to get into trouble if one throws up a spontaneous reaction to a newspaper article, and relies on the "facts" in the article as being, well, facts.

You'd think I'd have learned by now. And that's not half of it. The other half though, will have to wait for the time required to make a better post.

That's all part of blogging unfortunately - the opportunity to throw ideas out there and get reactions and see where the discussion goes. I have a fairly eclectic mix of posts where some are done in a just a few moments, and others take much longer. Some just get abandoned because they'd turn into books or just be too short to fully explain a position.

Then again, a blog isn't ever a single post - it becomes a body of work and perhaps then the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. The post counter says this is post 1003. That's quite a few posts, with quite a few comments, with quite a few words. Whilst I reflect on that, I think it's time for quite a few beers.

Good evening all.

  1. Geez, it's quiet tonight. Have the storms taken out 35% of internet access? Or has the Labour-led government implemented new blog blocking software?

Can I say "Labour-led" government, or have I breached the EFA? Or is the word I want "breech"? Given that the EFA looks like a typical example of "seat of the pants" legislation then either form will likely do the trick.

  2. Good evening Zen. Comments have been pretty quiet all day, all over.
And I'm sick of painting the house--better to be at work, methinks..

  4. Evening Zen.
I just dunno, being as gestalted as this, "Then again, a blog isn't ever a single post - it becomes a body of work and perhaps then the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts," so early in the evening sugests the 'brown' you are reaching for may well be the third 'chaser.'
I think my maturity must be 'kicking in,' as I tend to nod off increasingly evenings which aint really conducive to a stream of coherent words. Good to see your sense of humour endures and within reasonable bounds.
One or two of the alternative sites are increasingly tending towards the extreme with unbridled intensity ... can't say it does a great deal for either readability or credibility ... sad really.

  5. Evening All! Haven't been over to see you for a while.

Andrei, I'll say two prayers for you. If you're out of hospital I trust you are on the mend.

The Cook has gone out for drinks with her mates and I'm left at home, in charge of two cats and the laptop. It was even left up to me to cook the chook! At item of culinary and gastronomic delight it was, too

Very pleased to see Rodney get a good lift in tonight's Roy Morgan. That would give him three seats.

  6. Andrei, my thoughts are with you 'bro. Get well soon.

Adolf, you're phone is on the blink.

  7. Being the only one to stand up to Winston and that fantastic yellow jacket must appeal to the voters.

    Well done, public.

  9. Never fear Bill is here. Another two days in whangerai hospital under my belt and sent home to rest for the weekend.
Has Winston bottomed out with his behaviour this week or do we think he can go even lower?

    ReplyDelete
  10. He'll go lower yet. I reckon the Dom-Post has more on him.

  11. I wish you a speedy recovery Andrei.

New Zealand politics is deplorable and a total disgrace to any sane kiwi. We have certainly lowered acceptable standards. How could it get so false!?

  12. Wait until Bob Jones finds out that his $25k was used to pay the booze bill and some overdue accounts at some of Wellington's classier but quiet establishments of leisure where red socks are not worn by yaghties.

    Then the fireworks will start.

  16. Evening one and all. It seemed so quiet so I went out for a wee while, and it's nice to come back and see a few familiar names.

Although I'm back so late, everyone has probably nodded off.

Good to hear you are out of hospital Andrei; and BB not far behind. I didn't realise they gave out weekend passes BB. Low security are you?

Howdy Rick. I've gotta get me to Christchurch soon and catch up with my Aunt and cousins. It's been too long since I've spent quality time in the city of my birth...

  17. ...when's the next census? Isn't it the rule one has to get them and their ass back to their home town before marking what your religion and sexual preferences are on the government vellum?

  18. The weekend pass crack is not far off the truth.
With a little luck I should only have to endure 2-3 weeks more of this nightmare. Saying that, I could not be more impressed with the staff at Whangerai hospital. I had cause to write a very scathing post about them last year when my youngest was in there. I will get round to writing a more positive review over the next week or two.
The only thing they could do to make the stay more pleasant is to allow mobile phone use in the cardiac care unit and install a wifi network.......

  19. I remember that post well. Good to see your current experience is good.

I've had a rough experience a few years back, but couldn't fault the people, they were great, and the Doctor just excellent. It was the long waits, the lack of local resource and a few other systemic issues.

  20. Mobile phone and wi fi? Want to remote control the machines that go ping and the pacemakers within 20 metres?

    ReplyDelete
  21. No, no. You don't have to be back in your home town for the census. The rule is that census is short for "incensus" which is a close cousin of the word "incense."

The census is for burning, by its light and fumes you can see and smell your liberty.

Give us a heads up when you're down here, Z.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Zen, yeah the ping machine/pace makers wifi/mobile conflict could be a little problematic.

You referred to the "long waits".
I have a theory about that. We have all gorged on a feast of medical themed shows on the television for decades. Typically people come in to a hospital and are immediately set upon by a horde of implausibly white toothed hotties... They nearly die but walk out all fixed up within 50 minutes. Our expetations have been set by the telly.
Saying that, when you arrive by ambulance or arrive into the emergency dept clutching your chest and wheezing the service is instant.
I have developed patience over the last few months due in no small part to the abject terror I have been feeling about what is happening to me. Also due to the fact that I try and avoid time truncated medical dramas. My medical tv education has been limited to watching Carry On movies. Which could explain my Sid James like behaviour.
