Daylight Saving 2008

If you haven't figured it out as yet, New Zealand went on to daylight saving today. That means the clocks have been pushed forward one hour so that summer arrives sooner. The days were getting longer anyway, but it now means I definitely arrive home from work in daylight. That's the good part. Getting up earlier will take some adjustment. Phone calls to Australia will only have a one hour differential will have three frigging hours difference for a while, which will make a small difference to my work patterns. How does daylight saving affect our readers?

  1. zen, a few days ago I wrote "...you're not usually that stupid", but maybe there is a pattern here.

Basic counting should let you work out that 2 + 1 = 3. The time difference between NZ and Oz has just INCREASED by an hour.

  2. Other than messing with my sleep pattern it just annoys me that the Government assumes authority over time itself. If the people want to determine if they want to shift the time by an hour twice a year they'll judge the pros and cons and decide for themselves.

  3. I loathe it. It messes up my body clock and as someone who likes to get up very early and watch the world grow light it feels as though I've been robbed of the best time of the day.
Yes, I know it still grows light,(!) but much later and by that time the preparations for work etc get in the way of "meditation time".
And after a hard day's work I'm in no mood or shape to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the boulervarde or a game of bloody tennis. ;-)
We leave those things to the bureaucrats who've been sitting on their lardy butts all day.....

  4. I accept it in mid summer but it starts too early and finishes too late.

It's too dark in the mornings and not warm enough to enjoy more light in the evenings in mid spring and late autumn.

I've written several posts on this in the last few days including this one: http://homepaddock.wordpress.com/2008/09/28/yawn-mutter-grumble/

  5. It means I can put away my clear helmet visor and can happily tool around in my super dark Arai visor knowing the light isn't going to fade before 730pm.

I laughed. Damn socialists meddling with the very fabric of time and space. Hehe
