Short-Term Thinking

The appointment of Palin is going to infuriate a lot of Democrats, and many of those are reporters. They will be sure to point out that McCain, at 72, is surely going to die within minutes of entering office, leaving a (gasp) women in charge that has never had a real job (Governor of Alaska doesn't count, reporters prefer to point out she was a small town Mayor in many of the initial reports). More likely that MCain will live for quite some time, and Palin will actually gain some valuable experience as Vice President. That's possibly long term thinking.

So when we read that Palin has been selected for electoral reasons, as the result of short term thinking, we should weigh this up against the equally inexperienced Senator Obama who hopes to be El Presidente from day one if he wins the election, not just veep. And do you think Obama selected running mate Joe Biden for purely short term electoral reasons? Enjoy:

Remember when the biggest threat to Obama were the Hillary Clinton supporters? They still are.
ANNCR: What does Barack Obama’s running mate say about Barack Obama?

ABC’S GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: You were asked, “Is he ready?” You said, “I think he can be ready but right now, I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.”

JOE BIDEN: I think that I stand by the statement.

ANNCR: And what does he say about John McCain?

BIDEN: I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off.

Now, that's a Democrat selected for electoral reasons who understands short-term thinking!
