Enzo Boschi is president of Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.
He is facing trial for failing to predict a 2009 earthquake that killed 308 people. Italian government officials have been investigating Dr Boschi and six other unfortunate individuals for over a year apparently and they are to stand trial on September 20.
Well somebody has to take the rap when 308 people die I suppose but this one seems just a little over the top given the unpredictable nature of earthquakes.

How ridiculous! They'd have to show that it was possible to predict earthquakes first.
ReplyDeleteAn act of God, surely. I presume they will also attempt to arrest God, or at lest his branch managers here on earth?
ReplyDeleteWell, we could take that thought and turn it around. You see, technically bad stuff in the world is caused by man's rebellion against God, so maybe it would be better to round up the atheists as the leaders of said rebellion? :)
ReplyDeleteBut first you'd have to prove that such events are actually caused by "man's rebellion", whereas an act of god is an existing and accepted legal concept. Just because something nasty happens doesn't mean it's NOT a miracle...

ReplyDeletebecause he said:An act of God, surely.
when he really meant:whereas an act of god is an existing and accepted legal concept
even though he said: I presume they will also attempt to arrest God,
Bearhunter is presumably having a good time deconstructing his own arguments.
This is reminiscent of the European with trials of the Middle Ages. Only now, the scientists are the witches. Hope that mad cow doesn't pop up in Italy anytime soon, else the veterinarians and biologists will have a lot to answer for.
