Friday Night Free for All

Friday Night At NZ Conservative is the traditional time of the week where the gloves come off and we just kick back and chat.

OK, it can be a bit strange compared to pulling out the BBQ and having people over face to face, but the tyranny of distance and busy lives can weigh against us. So you have to try a bit harder.

So unless you are actually an Alien or a Communist you'll probably find there is some common ground and you could consider dropping in behind enemy lines and say hello.

I'll be back after a Prawn Pizza. See you then?

  1. Good evening from a very windy place not far from you.

  2. Evening all. Prawn Pizza. Cant say that does it for me but I dont mind pizza and like pawns so perhaps I should give it a go. However, I also like icream and pizza and haven't tried them together.

Schools out. 7 weeks holiday for me. Cant complain with that!!!! today is the best day in the world for being a teacher.

Where is the windy Gecko? My wife is flying into Wellington tomorrow morning. Should she have breakfast???

  3. Hi Ozy. Just north of Wellington, and I'd never have breakfast prior to flying into Wellington ;)

  4. Hi Gecko and Ozy!

Ozy, your wife should definitely not have breakfast tomorrow morning. There's a heavy rain + strong winds warning for Wellington tonight and tomorrow.

    See this page for more.

  5. Hi all - schools out for summer yay

Any of you seen "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"

We watched it as the rained poured down this afternoon - went down well in some quarters not so well in others.

  6. Hi folks.

Prawn pizza works with Garlic Oil and lots of cheese.

I say go for breakfast before the flight. What's the worst case scenario? All I can think of is that you might end up having a second breakfast if you lose your first.

Given that I like breakfast, that doesn't sound so bad.

Haven't seen The Curious Case of BB. Might give it a go when it's off the overnight DVD list.

  7. Hi Lucia, it's just started bucketing down here. Let's hope there aren't too many idiots on the the road tonight, not sure I want a night of dealing with them.

  8. Bucketing ... not doing so yet here, just looking very ominous. Which reminds me, I better go downstairs (which means outside and under the house) and put another load of washing in the dryer!

Gecko, idiots, Friday night, close to Christmas - don't like your chances.

  9. Well, we have raindrops here, now. Asterix (the kitten) was a bit reticent about going outside, but I told her, if she wanted to go to the toilet, to go now because it was going to get alot worse. She took it onboard and skipped off through the raindrops, shaking herself as she went.

    Hi Andrei,

No, haven't seen that movie. I don't watch alot - is that whathisname, of scissorhands fame? Darn, I can't remember his name!

  10. Thanks all. Our family is travelling to Chch for a wedding tomorrow. My wife and one boy via Wellington and me and the other boy via Auckland. Looks like I have the better deal!!!

I will tell her the weather looks fine and to have bacon and eggs for breakfast

  11. Ozy,

If it helps, pilots who come into Wellington regularly cope with strong winds. If it's too bad, they'll just divert.

  12. Lucia, you're thinking of Johnny Depp. This film stars Brad Pitt, based on the 1922 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I haven't seen it though.

Zen, 'tyranny of distance' ey? I kinda like that.

Has been kind of humid and close all day here in Auckland. A rainstorm would actually be very nice and cleaning. Can't see one happening though.

  13. Evening all, we doing puns tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Everybody do puns tonight..
    Everybody wang-chung tonight..

  15. Dang, I get here late and I miss out on the puns.

In reference to the Easter Trading debate coming early this year, it reminds me of rabbits:

How Do You Catch a Unique Rabbit?
    A. Unique Up On It.

    Q. How Do You Catch a Tame Rabbit?
    A. Tame Way, Unique Up On It.

    Q. What can rabbits have that no other animal can have?
    A. Baby rabbits.

  16. I was reading these comments and learn some things about what people in the NZ do in Friday´s night!

Nice idea to have Friday´s night chat in the blog

    Regards from Portugal

  17. Hi Francisco, welcome!

I'm not sure if we are typical of what NZ people do on Friday, but it beats heading to an excessively noisy pub where you can't hear anyone speak and paying $5 a drink.

We are heading into summer, although it seems to be late this year. That means long warm nights, outdoor eating with friends and family, and trips down to the beach.

Or at least, that's my plan.
