From the department of Nanny knows what's best

Thou shalt only eat what the Government decree's is best for you or thou shalt not eat at all.

Food donations for New York's poor have been banned
DHS Commissioner Seth Diamond says the ban on food donations is consistent with Mayor Bloomberg’s emphasis on improving nutrition for all New Yorkers. A new interagency document controls what can be served at facilities — dictating serving sizes as well as salt, fat and calorie contents, plus fiber minimums and condiment recommendations.
This is the latest story in the endless stream of stories coming out of Obama's America where Big Government controls are being applied to food items to control what people can and cannot ingest to sustain life and limb.

Stalin would be proud.

  1. Well you are not really correct here Andrei. You are allowing your preconceived notions to get in the way of the facts.

This is actually an example of good intentions gone wrong.

New York has passed a series of laws which were aimed to improve the nutrition of several "at risk groups".

Diamond does not seem to have had anything to do with this.

It got a lot of support as who does not want to improve the feeding of the poor. I am sure some of the Catholic church supported these changes.

    Thats the good intention!

What went wrong was in a typical American way they were over precise with the drafting of the law. (You can find this using Google).

As things worked out this has a side effect of being only able to use food from regulated food preparation kitchens. Because otherwise they cannot be sure what has gone into the food. It may be very good and nice but the law does not care!

Therefore the DHS services can no longer accept donations from non registered kitchens.

Its a state law - not a Federal law

So Andrei its not "Big Government" is local and state government.

So its not "Obama's America " because neither the Federal government nor Obama's administration have had anything to do with this.

Diamond has no room to maneuver. He has a law pointing at his head and he has no choice but to obey.

The "bad Guys" are the people who masterminded and supported the law changes in the first place without considering the side effects of their "feel good" legislation

  2. "So Andrei its not "Big Government" is local and state government."
I'd argue that it's "big government" all the same, in the sense that all of us are over-governed at every level.
Government should simply butt out of this and leave people to do what they've always done. None of this legislative crap will result in the poor being better fed--it simply places more hurdles in the way of those who would otherwise help.
And can the legislators point to documented cases of poisoning or malnutrition due to a previous lack of regulations?
    I very much doubt it.

  3. All over the US government officials are stepping in to stop people choosing for themselves their own food.

Whether it be raw milk in Pennsylvania (armed raids on Amish farmers) or organic vegetables in California, again armed raids on suppliers.

    Big Brother is growing

  4. Andrei& KG,

"Big Brother is growing" perhaps he /she is but the example you have chosen is a poor one.

The food law changes seem to have been instigated at a low level by a citizen campaign. So the exact opposite of Big Government I .e citizens banding together demanding the government change the law.

"Government should simply butt out of this and leave people to do what they've always done"

That is what the government was trying to do but the citizens demand action. "Wont somebody think of the vegetables!"

"And can the legislators point to documented cases of poisoning or malnutrition due to a previous lack of regulations?" - according to one of the New York newspapers there had been some cases. Its not clear if they started this or were just included in it.

"organic vegetables in California, again armed raids on suppliers"

Don't you realise that that case which got so much coverage was because it was being used as a front for drug trading and that it had absolutely nothing to do with the vegetables sales? You did bother to check that right!

Again Andrei you seem to have been led astray by not bothering to check the message just because it fitted what you wanted to hear!
