Christian doormats

Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey has come out swinging against the marginalization of the Christian Faith in the UK.

He claims, almost certainly correctly that MPs are using political correctness to push Christianity out of public life.

And he says Christians must stand up for their faith and the Christian heritage of the United Kingdom.
He told a meeting in the House of Lords: 'Christianity, which has given so much to our country, is now being sidelined as never before as though it is a stranger to our nation.'
Lord Carey told Christians to stand up for their faith and to be more assertive when their heritage is attacked.
'If we behave like doormats, don't be surprised if we are treated as though we are,' he said. 'It is time to return to the public square.'
He is right.

And what applies to the UK also applies here.

  1. Dýa reckon, Andrei? Or are they just feeling put upon because of the push to remove the unelected from the Lords? How many atheists sit in the Lords purely because of their atheism? Why should some washed up old Bish end up sitting in parlaiment by virtue of his longevity in the church?

And what else is he complaining about?

A person who takes a secular job and then wants to apply his religion to his work. A nurse and ateacher who cannot see their job descriptions do not include proseltysing.

For far too long religion has been priveleged now it is to be treated equally they squeal.

  2. I know you will never accept this LRO but it was people whose ideas where formed by Christianity who were at the forefront of all the freedoms that you hold so dear.

And my friend it is undeniable that our civilization is founded on Christian principle - we abandon it at our peril.

  3. "Why should some washed up old Bish end up sitting in parlaiment by virtue of his longevity in the church?"
So who defines him as "washed up" LRO?
And do you object equally to some shonky businessman who contributed to NuLabour's coffers being given a peerage also?
The unelected of the Lords have acted as a very effective check against judicial and political excesses in the past. Which is why Blair and his gang were so determined to get rid of them.

"...and ateacher who cannot see their job descriptions do not include proseltysing."
Unless, of course it's for Marxism, eh?

Told you that some time ago. Can't recall a very positive response.
