Is St Columban's College in Caboolture really Catholic?

I don't think so.

A Catholic school at Caboolture has banned a Christian group from holding a meeting at its hall after learning it would feature a US speaker 'set free from homosexuality'.

St Columban's College said it had immediately withdrawn permission for the 'Miracle Christian Center' to hold the meeting, saying it was not in line with the 'Catholic Christian ethos of our community'.

Very weird.

  1. I wouldn't have thought a Catholic school would have allowed a non-Catholic religious group to use their premises regardless what the subject of the meeting was. Would you be upset if they were using the school for a meeting where they would be advocating the ordination of women? I notice they have women as pastors and "prophetesses", whatever they might be.

  2. Bearhunter,

No, I would not be upset in the slightest the meeting was disallowed because it advocated the ordination of women, nor would it bother me if they only allowed Catholic groups to use the hall.

In hindsight, maybe they thought that any non-Catholic group who didn't have the sacraments necessary to help a person with their sins would be not a good group to have on the premises if they were saying they could do just that.

That was my first thought on reading the article, rather than assuming they were pro-gay.

It was just the same where I grew up; community groups could use church premises, but not other churches or organisations specifically related to other churches (as in the case of the Boy Scouts being affiliated with the Anglican church).

  4. It's a liberal gotcha.

Schools rent out their premises all the time.

In this case the school let its hall out to a group which has the temerity to utter liberal heresies in this case the heresy being "being gay is not immutable".

And because Liberals loath free speech they make a fuss. The school then seeks to avoid embarrassment resiles from letting the hall to the group.

It is a form of bullying which the left has developed into a fine art.

Not Catholic schools. Or at least not to non-Catholic religious groups.
