Here is the President of the United States, Barak Obama, bowing upon greeting the Saudi King.
Now, if he were kissing the ring of the Pope, that I could understand - but bowing to the Saudi King? Surely they are of the same rank?

Greeting called 'most unbecoming for president of the United States'
He bows to the Saudi king yet touches our Queen!
ReplyDeleteSend him to the tower!
I believe its called "respect". A virtue I think I recall people here complaining about it's lack of presence in NZ's young theseadays...
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if the respect was returned? Or does one only bow to Royalty, not Presidents?
ReplyDeleteI thought there was some etiquette that when equals meet, the rules change. A nod or a handshake suffices.
Funny behaviour for such a narcissist.
ReplyDeleteObama must think the Arabian king is a demi-God or something.
Anyway, narcissism is something afflicting our loony lefty leaders, as can be seen at No Minister and the Fairfacts Media Show.
Let's not make any assumptions then ZT. "Does anyone know if the respect was returned? Or does one only bow to Royalty, not Presidents?"
ReplyDeleteBut can I draw from this that you are a republican (for NZ)?
We in the US do not currently have a President. We have instead a pop-icon, created by the media and handicapped by a sophomoric world view and juvenile intellect. This may alarm some in the world, but there is actually nothing to fear. The United States actually committed financial suicide during the course of the previous administration, when our Congress spent and spent and our then-President signed and signed. You can't tell yet, but inevitably, the US is on its way to collapse, victim of a financial poison already consumed but not yet circulated to the vital organs. Socialism does not work and we can prove it. Just watch.
ReplyDeleteI think all you can draw from that comment is that I'm not sure what the etiquette is/customs are.
ReplyDeleteWhether I agree or not with custom is a separate issue.
Although my second point still stands - surely, they meet as equals?
To be honest, if there was a different etiquette towards royalty I would not be surprised (for right or wrong, personally I would consider royalty the lesser mortal). It's called "tradition", and then there are local cultural customs...
ReplyDeleteSo end result is the post is much ado about nothing. Or maybe it's more about desperate far-right wingers...
