One less bureaucrat

Well, that normally would be a good thing. Here, I'm not so sure. He doesn't have a job, but he does have my respect and I suspect, his own self respect and the respect of many other people. Presumably this is something he values, given his actions.

Experience is something we gain when we learn from our mistakes, as much as reflecting on our successes. Some valuable experience has been gained here, and I suspect Mr Millar's job prospects are actually quite good.

At least the tradition of falling on one's sword for such matters is not completely defunct. A few Ministers need to take note. Last time a Labour Minister contemplated such action, they first checked to see it was covered by ACC. But that's another story.
Laurence Millar, Deputy State Services Commissioner for ICT and government CIO has resigned following a finding that contracts between the Commission and consultancy Voco in respect of the now-abandoned Government Shared Network (GSN) were unsatisfactorily managed.
